Any non-fish baits you use?
« on: Jan 16, 2007, 12:39 AM »
Since using baitfish for ling is illegal here, and I try to stay on the right side of the rules, I'm trying to think up some non-fishy baits for burbot....I know squid works well as TGF has shown me.....but what else have you used with success?

Ancient Chinese Secret ;)2   Has got me a few burbot, but I just can't bring myself to eat one that goes for my excrement . Derby OK, eating poor. ;)

I've also heard of liver, heart, chicken as long as fresh.

burbot aren't all that fussy, whatever you have they will likely take!!
Anything that's meat they will eat!!!

experiment with certains "other" baits and let us know how you make out

2 ,3  fat nightcrawlers on circle hook (let's say #8)  and they are yours!
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I just wasted.

try herring oil, or man made scents...you get better action on the curly tail grubs with that anyhow, plus i've taken burbot without bait too, they just don't stick around as long

I have caught a few with those colorful gummie worms, regular not sour. And if the fish aren't biting they taste pretty good as well.
