Not sure, but I am going around to start checking later today.  I will post if I make it over there.

I was not able to check Coldwater Lake today but did make it to a few other lakes on the west side of Branch County.   I checked Gilead and Matteson lakes and found only about 3 inches of ice.   I also checked Palmer and Lake Sturgeon in St. Joseph County and found Palmer only had about 2 inches on it but open water in the middle.   Lake Sturgeon had about 2 1/2 inches on it.  Gilead and Matteson had enough to hold me just fine as I am a big man but I would not fish on it as of yet, I enjoy a little more ice that.  Maybe late in weekend might be different. I had just heard that on the east side of the county there is about 4 inches of ice.  I have heard that there are fisherman on Messenger Lake fishing, however I have not seen that for myself as of yet.   I plan to make a trip to Coldwater tonight and  I will see for myself.   Hopefully the ice builds quickly as I have the itch to go fishing and the kids are wanting to go too.   If anyone does check Coldwater, Marble or other lakes please share the information.   Thanks

I haven't been by Coldwater Lake, but they are fishing at Messenger.  Saw a couple of guys out there this afternoon.  Not too far out though, lol.  I went out just a short way and found about 3 inches.

Coldwater is still open You may be able to get on in Shawnee Shoals If you can find a spot to get on.

Last night we got 9" of snow so only the channels will be safe. And be sure to spud your way out on the channels too!

I would definitely say that we will have solid ice on every lake by Christmas....The temperatures aren't supposed to get above 34 degrees for a high this week.  So, hopefully most of the smaller and shallower lakes will be fine by next weekend.  I checked a few lakes last night and this morning, most of them had two or three inches of ice near shore.  In the middle of the lakes, there is still snow and only about an inch and a half of ice...not enough yet.
