I imagine Cabela’s isn’t far behind. I’m more disappointed each time I visit whether an outpost or main store.

Sportsman's and Cabela's parking lots are pretty empty most of the time.

Bob Wards seemed to have moved away from hunting / fishing / shooting type sports to clothing and yuppie outdoor gear about the time they moved to their present location.  I find less and less reasons to ever go there anymore.

I think Sportsmans is pretty good overall.  Some frustration with ammo - Find popular waterfowl loads late in the season, ha!  Usually if I need something I go there first.  If they don't have it then Cabelas or Amazon.

Cabelas is ok.   Lots of 'bubble wrap' crap and a poor selection of things like ammo.  I've always felt their fishing section was a bit geared towards the midwest where they got their start.  I think it's some better now.

Never been in a Scheels.  They had a great price on the vex's this past december and I ordered a Vexilar FLX 20 from them.  They shipped it the next business day and I got it the day after that - free shipping.  It was cheaper than ordering a reconditioned unit from Vexilar direct.  I thought that was pretty decent.

Although I hate the Mall and generally avoid it all costs.

Cabela's is over priced for what they have and sportsman's is starting to not carry what they used to.

So it's still officially a rumor?  ;D Sorry couldn't resist

I'd shop there.  Not real excited about the 800 of the same NorthFace jacket but if they open a bigger store they do stock up on a lot of fishing and hunting stuff and it's often on sale.  I'll still shop at the other stores as each may offer something the others don't.

Yep. Everything seems to be MSRP priced at them both. If it isn't on sale, there aren't any bargains.

Lived all over Montana and North Dakota, and Scheels is hands down the best small City sports store there is. Cater to the local economy, support local community, great selection depending on the type of fishing in the area, great selection and quality for other items, best customer service and warranty anywhere, and they match almost any price. I'd take a Scheels 9/10 over a Sportsman's, Bob's, or Cabela's. If Missoula is truly getting one, thats fantastic!

Like someone has said before: If you can find a price any cheaper than what they are selling it for anywhere "SCHEELS" will match it hands down.. You just have to show them where "internet, flyer, wherever- Just as long as you can prove it to them they will price match it!!

Really? Bob Wards over Sportsmans?  In Helena Bob Wards has a horrible selection of anything, and it looks more like a used garage sale at times than anything else. I still go there looking for gems from the 1980s that are still on their shelf.  Honestly Sportsmans doesn't always carry what I want but at least their prices are competitive and have decent sales.  Plus I can order anything they don't have in store online and ship to store for free.

Would love to have a Scheels though here in Helena.  Living in the Dakotas Scheels carried legit stuff for the outdoors around here, especially ice fishing stuff.

Agreed about BW. They have the smallest selection of hardwater gear of the three places here.

Perhaps I should have qualified my statement; BW's is better (again imo) for what I do and how I do it.  I fish year-round, which includes several months devoted to fly fishing.  BW has a fantastic selection of flies that won't bankrupt an angler, as well as an ample selection of tying materials.  While I can't get everything I need there, most of the flies that I tie (or buy) are there.  However, Sportsman's is comparable and definitely offers more for the spin/bait-casting angler.  Since BW's didn't require me to drive across town when I lived there, and since I don't bow hunt, I tended to shop there.
