With little or no ice west of Worcester, I had given up on ice fishing this year.
Didn't even take out my gear.
Don't get me wrong, I would have LOVED to hit the ice this year, but with the conditions we've had, and the distances I'd have to travel to even hope to find ice, it just wasn't worth it. I even gave up on the Meredith Derby in NH.
Fortunately, the weather has allowed me the luxury of being able to find and fish some open waters all by myself.
I always look forward to spring fishing due to the habits of the fish I target. Early spring means perch and pike, pickerel and musky.
Then it's trout and then later it's bass.
I won't be crying about the lost season on the ice, but will look forward to next season with even more gusto!
