Crazy idea but it mite just work! Rattle reel....

We don't have ice houses around here but we have flip overs. If a guy wanted to stay mobile and fish two rods but save room in his shack why couldn't I mount a rattle wheel to my flip over and fish it like a dead stick with out having the rod ther in my shack taking up space! Or I could make something up to mount one just outside and it bein a rattle wheel could hear it go off.  Drop a live bait down bring it up one crank and jig with another rod.  Get one hand line it like u normally would. When moving reel it up throw gum band or velcro wrap around it Nd when u get next spot drop er back down. Could anyone explains how these work and am I crazy?

you can buy rattle reels online that clamp to poles in your portable. I have one. Unfortunately in NY it is considered a tip-up because it audibly signals a strike.

We are allowed 5 devices so no big deal here.

Ours is combined. Just so were not using more than 5 devices. So how do you rig them reels? Regular line or ad you to use braided tipup line? I have never seen one and is there a way to adjust drag or are they free spinning?

Why not sit in the portable with a jig pole, and drill a second hole just outside the door.....and set a tipup over the hole....leave the door open..... .
and watch it. I'ts only 30" away.

Because sometimes I get tired of dealing with tip ups when moving allot. And have been dead sticking but I have a one man flip over and I don't have lots of room where this would be out of my way.

Is the point of a rattle reel so you can here it from outside your shack when hoping?  If not they make rod holders that clip right on to your portable poles.  This gets the rod off the ground and wont take up floor space.

hey another idea that i like a lot better then tip ups is the ht ice rigger since its like a tip up with the flag but can deadstick any bait you want and they hold the rods real secure

no use it inside, i will have to look them up! i made this rig up off my sled but to hold my rod but its not to swift.

that would work, lol i wont lie when im fishing all day alone i sometimes take a power nap in my shanty. guys probably think im really into them when im in there sawing logs lol

I took a nice nap in the shanty yesterday and woke up and immediately started catching perch.  It was possibly the best nap I've ever taken.  I'm liking this rattle reel alarm clock idea.

Pretty sure if you tried using a rattle reel outside of the shack  your hole would freeze over?
