Favorite set ups!
« on: Dec 27, 2005, 10:10 PM »
Went fish'n tonight.  Not a lot of luck.  i went with my cousin.  He was 15 feet from me getting bite after bite.  I finally swallowed my pride and asked if I could move in on his territory(family and all).  Took some time, but he finally relented and let me squeeze in.  Still did not help much.  He was using a red colored glow in the dark jig.  I was using a glow in the dark bead head with a red tail.  Both had on a waxie.  I took the red tail off and started to do better.  So, I am wondering what are a few of your favorite set ups?  I would love nothing more than to go out next time and watch him squirm and wonder what I was using.  As they say revenge is sweet.   Thanks for any ideas.

Thanks for the reply.  I was thinking both game and panfish.  However, we were fishing panfish last night.  We did put up one tip up with a fat head on it.  No luck.  Thanks.

I prefer glow in the dark jigs for panfish.  Also a friend of mine fished in the Ice Team World Challenge last year in Alexandria.  They were amazed at the differnet presentations people were using to catch sunnies.  The winners were using giggle sticks and they would make sure that when they dropped down the jig that it didn't spin.  They said that if you drop it down and it starts spinning (like from a spining reel) it will have to unwind the line before the jig will sit motionless.  By using a giggle stick they can drop the line down and it won't move an inch.  These guys were from IL and I guess there isn't a lot of lakes to ice fish on so the ones that they can fish on are fished pretty heavy.

It is always going to depend on the weather and the mood of the fish.  Some days they want small and motionless, some days they want big and flashy.  I can't say what my favorite set up is, cause it all depends on the bite.
