Same era. My buddy had an old Corvair that we had cut holes in the floor boards. Fished from the back seat.

Pfft, 4 wheel drive. I do all my hunting, ice fishing, and tow my boat with a hatchback 4 cylinder.

It just rolled over 210k last week... trucks are a waste of money and gas for the vast majority of people.

I just wish it hadn't taken me into my early 30s to figure out I could do everything I ever needed with a small car and a trailer... could have saved myself a lot of money.

We didn't have holes in the floor, but on days it wasn't too windy, we just used to open the doors and fish from the car with the heater blowing when I was a kid.

I don't even think we get that much anymore. Our average annual snowfall per TWC is 24.5." I imagine if they did the averages off the past 20 years, it'd be more like 15-18". We don't get snow like we used to... most of it swings north and/or east of here now.

We had a little Subaru wagon when I was growing up in northern MN, but it was 4wd and Dad kept all terrain tires on it. AMC Eagles were real popular up there, too.

And when the fish weren’t biting…we’d go mushing ! Just tied a rope to the bumpah and the spare tire….and off we go ! Of course alcohol was involved ….

My dad wouldnt buy us a auger.we chopped holes with a axe for a long time.this was 1980 too.then we got a spud which wasnt much better.dont think i used a auger until i was 12.

My maternal grandfather ice fished in MA (Springfield area) and have at least one old pic
of him in his woolies from 1930's. My aunt (77) says her dad would send her out scouting.
Her job was to report back how the other guys were doing after she skated over for a quick visit.
