A good Bluegill bite!
« on: Jan 30, 2011, 11:53 AM »
I had a chance to get out on Saturday to pop some holes with a friend north of Vandalia. It was beautiful conditions - light winds, temps above freezing, partly cloudy, but the ice was pretty iffy after a snowstorm about ten days ago caused some uneven ice thicknesses. Some areas were 5-6" and other were 2-3" with slush. Thus, we did not explore too much in other areas, but we were lucky and didn't have to. We started fishing off a point and drop off that holds fish and did quite well with medium to large gills. When the bite stopped I moved out to 12-13 FoW in a flat that held schools of aggressive gills. It's seldom you get a day where the fish bite all day... and today was our day. Pretty much had our limit of 25 by lunchtime, but we had fun trying new lures and colors for fun. Most fish were caught on waxies, mealworms I had leftover from Fall, and ratsotails.

Here's my pile of fish:

I hope the upcoming storm doesn't mess things up too much and extends the season for another three weeks  ;D ;) @)!

Tight Lines,
