Well, it's over, down south at least... Never even really began! Took the pond forever to freeze and only had good enough ice for one ice fishing/skating day. Been out in the boat in the last couple weeks. Had some surprisingly good dry fly action last Sunday.

Caddis. Never seen them hatch in abundance this early!

Wow. I've seen winter stoneflies but not caddis.

Yup. I was quite surprised, seen my fair share of little black stone flies in the winter months but these were size 12 or 14 brown Caddis skating across the surface. The takes were very aggressive!

Seems so early.... but way to get on them.

Winter caddis pop off all the time down here even if the water temp is 38-low 40's.

Wow ! It was a bad ice year for sure but the bugs are happy.

I think I'm done as well, just put the gear away and summerized the sleds. Pulled the boat out and started getting it ready as well.

Yesterday was my last chance to go and I let things get in the way - so I wet a line to no avail at an open water pond. Been an interesting season, already looking forward to a better one next year - hopefully with more ice and more time spent on top of it. Gear will be stowed and boat unwrapped in a couple of weeks... can't wait.

Had a good day yesterday in Coos. Several big female yellow perch and one errant pickerel who tried to strip away 50yds of line! Coming off the lake I went through the top layer of snow ice into ankle deep water and the sled followed. The hub is drying before packing away for the season, which up here, has been a short one. I can't complain though, we went to Hawaii for two weeks in February and missed the best fishing here! ::)
