Just a little reminder to all who are going to be heading out in the boats soon. New York State has a new law on the books about wearing a PFD in any boat underway, which meens any boat not docked! You must be wearing a PFD at all times even when anchored on any body of water. Just a little reminder to all so the fines dont get you. I think this is for the months of Oct. thru April but not exactly sure on that time frame.
my boat is 30 feet so that means I am exempt from this new law?J3W
This is just from November 1- May 1 , though, correct? Which means that when I'm out during the summer I won't have to have mine on while fishing?
From DEC: New PFD Law: Waterfowl hunters and others should be aware that New York State Law now requires that everyone aboard kayaks, canoes or any other boats under 21 feet in length must wear Coast Guard-approved personal flotation devices (PFDs) from November 1st through May 1st.
boats for hire (such as drift boats) are exempt from this law
OK, Here's a good, weird question. I own an Arctic Armor Plus suit. If I wear this suit while I am in my 17' boat perch fishing does that constitute my compliance with wearing a PFD?Stay Sharp, Be SafeGrady
o.k I'll wear my PFD. Seems simple enough.
