Still waiting here in Rochester area

I'm in Rochester too but I think I might try east...DeRuyter or Tully or Song. Somewhere.....ANYWHERE that's a reasonable drive and has perch, crappie, and walleye (DeRuyter). It'd be my first time at any of those bodies of water so, while I'm not asking for any tips (I can put my time in like everyone else), I'd appreciate any warnings anyone might have of gas pockets or otherwise danger spots a newbie to the area might not be aware of. I'll have my spud, spikes, rope and float suit but again, new to the area.

bosco2,

I live in Pulaski and have friends who fish most of the lakes you mentioned. ALL of them are heading North this weekend. I'm not saying there isn't good ice around Syracuse I'm just saying if there was these guys wouldn't be driving 2+ hrs north to get on hard water. Although it's probably worth mentioning that people are a little tight lipped in the early season because of safety concerns..... and first ice bite is normaly pretty good! Haha.... probably a bit of both!! As for me I'm also headed north because sandy just finally iced over.... barely and she can be a little tricky. Send me a PM if you want to try after Christmas... I'd tell you to tag along this weekend but it would be 3hrs one way from Rochester and I personaly have not checked the Ice yet... just going by word of mouth so I won't recommend anything I can't verify directly! Be safe if you do get out
Find the bite, Fish the bite, repeat
