Ethyl gas
« on: Sep 10, 2017, 07:32 AM »
Years ago when life was simpler a person had two choices of fuel at the pumps. Regular and ethyl. Regular was always in front of the gas station and if you wanted to you could pump ethyl out back.

They also usually had a separate tank of white gas which is the equivalent of todays unleaded...It fueled our coleman lanterns for 10 cents a gallon. Back in the late '40s gas was 10 cents a gallon and kerosene 7 cents. Gas pumps were gravity dispensed.

Amoco high test was always unleaded from what I recall, worked well in both my Colman and my 427 Chevy!

Tetraethyl lead made good high octane fuel.
