Don't want to make this a thread about Ion, but I suggest getting a spare set of cutters and keep them with you on ice, as well as the wrench. They tend to dull quick if you drill into frozen weeds, debris, etc. Also good to clear  slush from blades and shaft on cold days as soon as you're done drilling.

Other than that, I love my G2.

Howdy folks. I'm heading up to Petawawa this weekend. Any thoughts? I lived there as a kid, but never really had the opportunity to fish there. Tons of rivers. There is a lake in Cobden I always see loaded with shacks. Either way hope everyone has a great weekend.

Well this will be last day of ice fishing for me this season as I have knee surgery later this week. So going to head to Verona Lake. If you see 2 big ol' boys in camo with a side x side on the lake this afternoon that will be my son and me.

Tight lines to all!

Got a call to go to a local pike derby on Dog on Sat so of course the answer was YES! We had several tipups and a couples of us where jigging. First fish on in the first 10 mins on a tipup (a buddy) and I got a 5# plus about 20 mins later jigging, we thought it was going to be an excellent day but only 2 more decent fish caught between us. 1st and 2nd where 7# plus and I was in the top 10. Fun was had by all. I will get my cleats ready as I hope all of this water will drain off the ice as there is still 20 plus inches and we may be able to fish till the season closes this month. ;D

Is there a place similar to this site for open water fishing talk?

Hey GD, yes this site has an open water forum on Myfishfinder but the Ontario thread it's really used but you can start it. I use Walleye Central under Canada Eh heading. More local but mainly the Ottawa area is Fish-Hawk and I believe there is a site focused on Quinte region but I'm not sure.

I heard the narrows on Loughborough's west end skimmed over last night. On Dog, the bay off Sunbury Rd is probably also skimmed but it was the first cold snap we had which didn't last long. With this up/down temps and the storm coming I hope we will have good ice by the new year :'(

Good day ice anglers,

Winter is slowly starting to take hold in Ontario. Time to remember about ice safety. Hope to see some of you this year out on the lakes when it is safe.

To all anglers around the Kingston area,

With the upcoming weather be very careful going out on any ice. Conditions are going to change very quickly.

Tight lines to all,

Or you could go out to the Bay of Quinte and fish with these people. https://inquinte.ca/story/group-of-eight-rescued-from-unstable-ice-near-big-island
May your tip-up spool while your flag raises with hopes of landing the big one.

Anybody been out to check the ice, I went by Dog by Sunbury the other day and was happy to see very little snow on the ice and Collin's look ok from Div st but the heat wave coming after the worst storm I can remember may prevent going to check any time soon.  :-\

Good day all,

With the late start to freeze up around the Kingston area, it is going to be even more important to share ice conditions as the coming weeks unfold. While it is always important to check conditions yourself, the more info we share on this site will help to keep everyone safe.

I am looking forward to getting sometime in the near future to try out our Garmin 95 sv with Live Scope + .

Anyway stay safe and tight lines whenever you can get out on the ice.

Great point Don.

I am hoping to head to either Quinte (Big Bay) on Sunday or Dog lake but I'm struggling to get any decent ice reports before making the trip. Hopefully someone updates somewhere...if I make it out I will update here.

Sorry but no idea about the Bay (make SURE you wear a floater suit) but in the case of Dog there is very few guy's going out, little ice and 15-30+mm of rain coming then cold for two days then in the +'s for several days, going crazy, haven't even tried to check the ice and i'm within 10 min's of Dog, Collins, Lough, etc. :%$#!:

Thanks Stukkie,

I always do when going out for the first few times until I'm certain the ice is "safe". Yah I'm going stir crazy haha. My father in-law lives in PEC and drove to Belleville to check out Point Anne and said there was no one out on the ice. So my guess is it isn't ready yet and after this rain it definitely won't be.

Sucks to hear that Dog probably isn't ready. Was hoping to go there as a fall back but that doesn't sound like much of an option. Let us know if you manage to scout it out before Sunday. :)

Thanks everyone.

Good day piscatorial colleagues,

Well ice fishing this year in the area continues to be elusive. I am going to go out this weekend to a few lakes and hopefully get a reading on ice levels, if any at all. If anyone else heads out to check the ice, be safe and let us know so we can hopefully get out safely over the next several weeks.

Tight lines, be safe!

Heading and checking Silver, Sharbot, 2nd Depot, and Verona Lakes for ice thickness today. Will post info later. Just drove by Verona and a couple portable ice shelters out on the south end.

Tight lines and be safe out there!

On Verona. 5 inches of good ice on the south end. Huts out this end and on the mid-lake hump. I’m going to give it a try.

I was out on Verona today (Orange hut) on south end. Ice was fantastic considering. Caught a  bunch of perch nothing to exciting. Just nice to be out.
If you see the orange hut out on the ice say hi!

So it appears the average ice thickness seems to be around 4 to 5 inches on most lakes around Verona and as far as Silver Lake. A few portable ice shelters on Verona, Eagle, Silver and Elbow Lake. Still lots of open water on west side of Sharbot Lake. We ended the day at Verona and marked a lot of perch on the Livescope+. Even hooked into a 3lb bass - sent him back down the hole quickly. Anyway conditions are fine for walking on the ice but never assume it is safe everywhere.

Tight lines and be safe out there!

Fantastic catch!

My goal this winter is to catch a Verona walleye. Caught enough pike and perch.

Nice work on the Verona Lake Walleye! I realize this is for Kingston Back Lakes, but I managed to hit Big Bay yesterday on BOQ and it had 6 inches of ice where we were. Some pressure cracks with just a skim over them as they just popped so as always, be careful.
