PVC Smitty ski's ?
« on: Apr 29, 2023, 06:04 PM »
Have some extra 3" schedule 80 pvc pipe & 22° fittings left over from a project.
Has anyone ever tried using pipe instead of ski's for a smitty? The plan is to place the 22's on the front " pull rope end " , fill w/ foam & cap. , then build attaching struts to fit a jet sled. Just not sure if pipe would be a + or - compared to flat ski's in slush & snow

It works but the PVC gets brittle when cold and cracks or shatters. The foam may help, I did not try filling with foam

Agreed on the standard schedule 40 p.v.c
( the white stuff ) , schedule 80 is grey in color & twice the wall thickness. My thoughts on the foam were to absorb shock & possibly make it buoyant.

If your pulling under your own power you should be fine, but if your using machine power I'd stick to skies.
