With a very lean Amsoil mix mine just rips.  Its ridiculous.

You bet it does. What a great setup, and lightweight for a gas auger. It's a shame Tanaka stopped making the engine.

I was an electric skeptic because I actually enjoy cutting a hole with my hand auger.  Then I went to a lake that allows 6 poles per person.  Cutting 12 holes for me and my son through 20 inches of ice got a bit old. 

So I picked up the a Flex brand drill with 1400 ft lbs at Lowes for $180 with two batteries and a charger.  Used an adapter and connected that to my old 8 Mora.  I was amazed how well it cut.  I'll still use the hand auger early season.

Hand augers are great but when you get older and have Grand children and have had shoulder surgery 3 times  light and quiet tools are safer and more enjoyable.
