Loon Lake
« on: Mar 02, 2023, 05:09 PM »
I went to Loon Lake early ice and am looking for 1 more day of fishing tomorrow before more snow arrives Saturday, and the already suspect ice becomes sketchier.
Has anyone been on or Fished Loon Lake recently?

Thanks in advance,

Jeremy

Drove by the west side on route 9. Did see folks out all over the lake with machines but also saw some huge pressure ridges. Can’t speak to the east side where the access is.

But if I wouldn’t hesitate to fish it, I am just fishing better waters

That sounds promising ActiveTrapChecker, however most of my more productive spots are not safe to fish.

Care sharing any other safe spots / more productive spots within an hour or so of Glens Falls?

Head north young man. Plenty of ice if you drive past the king. The opportunities are endless

Yes. I prefer to refer to George as the king.

There is still fishable water all around, including Loon. My point was you’ll stay on top at Loon, but that wouldn’t be my first choice.

Loon lake in Chestertown was locked and fished
Access was also with many signs and barriers in places.

How'd Loon Lake hold up after that rain / snow yesterday?

Isn't there a public launch on this lake? Is it too small for numerous vehicles? I have never been there but plan to hit it for perch and panfish next week

There are multiple Loon Lakes in NYS.  At least one person on this thread has been asking about the big pond south of Wayland in Western NY.  I'm also familiar with a Loon Lake north of the Goldsmith Road on the Saranac River, and I don't think anyone here is asking about that one.  The one that Hot Tuna (Howdy!) mentions is over in the eastern part of the State, and I think that is the one that most of the folks are speaking of.

Thanks for the scouting mission ice4066!
Looks like Loon needs a bit more time.  I will most likely be heading up to Paradox this Sunday while stopping and checking on Trout Lake.

I will post what I find.

Thanks
