Lake Louise Reports
« on: Nov 15, 2019, 10:06 PM »
I know I'm probably jumping the gun big time.  But I am chomping at the bit to get out to my cabin to do some ice fishing.  I am just looking for reports of ANY kind about the area.  Snow reports?  Ice thickness reports?  Fishing reports?  Overflow?  Etc.?

Webcam shows it frozen over at the lodge.
14*f so ice is building.
I still have a bunch of lures to build for ice fishing Lakers this year.
So at least I've got something fishing related  to do when I'm not at work.

Don’t let that camera fool you I got a report that there was still open water in the main lake this time last week.  With the snow they got last week and the warm up they are forecasting for this week I’d imagine it will still be a few weeks before it’s safe for snow machine travel.  We need a good solid week or two of 30 below to firm up all the overflow and thin ice, and even then travel with caution.

Or use one of these. ;)

Read a report on the wolfpack website that says there is 6 inches of ice on LL.  1-2 inches of overflow and a few inches of snow.

Not a report, but thought I would post this since it is relevant.  I saw this video come out recently about Lake Louise.

Anybody know who this guide is on Lake Louise fishing with Larry Csonka and CLEARLY using multiple treble hooks on articulated Kwikfish in the summer?

Okay, my bad.  A friend of mine just informed me that this video was shot before they changed the law to single hook only.  I thought the video looked more recent to me.

I hear they are running snowmachines on the lake lately.
Might be able to get out a bit if your careful and watch for overflow.

Yeah yeah. Nothing like shack fishing up there. waiting on ice down here. Going to try to catch a steelhead thru the ice. Got into some cutthroat last year.

Here's a report I got off of the LL group on facebook.

LLSMC Trail report for January 1, 2020.

Happy New Year to our wonderful members!

Lake Louise area trails all have about 12 to 18 inches of snow covering them.  Lake Louise, Lake Susitna, and Lake Tyone all have an average of about 10 inches of snow.

Ice on the lakes is approx 12"-14" thick. Though most of the overflow froze up in the past week, new areas are beginning to showing up the past couple days. Cameron Cove has reportedly some extreme areas of overflow that must be avoided. Stay on the marked trails and all will be good.

The temperatures this past week have been holding between lows of -15 and a high of 28 degrees. During the past week we received approximately 8" of new snow adding to our total. Forecast this coming week is for temperatures to stay around 0 deg. for the week, with scattered snow showers

On December 28th a group of Club Members organized and marked the Lake Trail around Lake Louise, Lake Susitna, and Lake Tyone to the Nipple Mt. Trail head. The west side of Lake Louise is marked to Dog Creek. There are a number of spots of overflow along the trail. Use caution in these areas as there is very rough ice conditions on the trail.

We plan to start grooming January 3rd, beginning with the Tolsona and Crosswind Trails, prepping for the Copper Basin 300 dog sled race, starting January 11th. We will continue grooming all the other trails hopefully finishing them by the end of the month.

Not that it makes much difference, but just curious, how would you know?  Akhardwater was with me a couple weeks ago so that is how he knows where I was at.

On another note, did anyone see this post on the Lake Louise Snowmachine club's facebook page?  Slobs on Lake Louise.

It’s ok Dube if you want I can take you out and show you around.  We use these things called snow machines to get around, they are super cool.

Nothin beats sitting in a nice warm shack drinking coffee at 40 below.  It would be nice if one of my trips it wasn’t stupid cold, maybe then I could actually go out and fish.  Lots of overflow out there so be careful.

Sorry I didn't have time to stay and chat with you bro.  My wife was in a hurry to get back home to the kids.  That was an awesome otter you shot.

No worries man is was nice to see your lynx and I was heading out to so no big deal.  I’m going to try and go next weekend to if it’s not -40 again.  I did see two trucks on the lake which was pretty shocking considering the amount of snow and all the overflow popping up.  It’s amazing how stupid people are.

ya one day they will get stuck in over flow and it will freeze in.  If i saw them stuck i would probably stop and help after a few choice words to them.

I would not stop to help them because that would mean that I condone their stupidity.  I will stop for snow machines and walking people as I have in the past and this previous weekend but I will not risk my gear to help some idiot in a truck.  Now if there are small children involved I will give them a ride to the lodge so they can stay warm while their idiot parents freeze.
