In Search Of Burbot In Inland Lakes
« on: Jan 30, 2018, 11:19 AM »
Hey guys, I am new to ice fishing for burbot. A buddy and I are looking for an inland lake in the Marquette area to target the lawyers. Anyone know a lake that has a population of them? Or maybe what type of lakes are likely to have a habitat for them?

I have done some research on them, I have been using glow lures, minnow heads, and fishing near dusk and into the night.

Any tips on lakes would be great!

Thanks,
   Trevor

You're way better off just running down to the Bays de Noc and fishing for them there.  Much more abundant and larger in size.

Thanks, I am actually headed to the bay this week-end for eyes.
It feels wrong saying that I hope I catch some burbot while going for walleye!

I have caught them in lake michigamme, michigamme river, michigamme resivior, peavey pond, chicogoan, Petticoat lake, Beaufort lake (in 3lakes), And fish lake. All caught on accident while fishing walleye/pike. If you wanna go catch burbot in numbers then just hit lake superior. Any bay will work as long as its after dark and you will get quite a few all night long. They are spawning right nowish so theyre easy pickins Inland lakes have much smaller populations and getting good numbers is usually tough

Just be carful The lower harbor hasn't froze over in marquette for 4 years now. But you can get them from boat and off the break walls when they are open. Good luck 👍🏼

Munising Bay is a safer bet through the ice for the. Out in front of the Sunset motel after dark in about 30ft of water. Throw some cut bait on a pimple. Keep slamming bottom with it and hold on.

I know this is an old thread.

Witch lake on M-95 had burbot when I fished it back in 2005.

The parking lot was plowed and access was easy.

There were walleye in there too.
