The derby is just around the corner !! So far we have Feb. 4th or 5th , 2006 for the date.

If anyone has any suggestions for a lake for this year post them here. Keep in mind it has to have easy access and plenty of parking !

5th sounds good as permit shot gun is still open this way nobody has to make a choice hunting or ice fishing no hunting on sundays and some guys have to work on saturdays

Feb 5th is not good That's Super Bowl Sunday . It would be better on the Saturday the 4th
AND the KDC Ice Fishing Contest II (or Alternate)
Sunday, February 5th 5am - 4pm

Lakes I say are Hopatcong or Aeroflex or Swartswood . They all have a lot of parking and are state lakes.

KDC tourney is set for that day too .... oops .... not so good then.

I agree with Shawn on the 3 lakes, all are nice big lakes with shallow and deep spots to fish. If anything, swartswood and aeroflex might be better because they are not as big as hopatcong, so people can be spread out a little more so that they are still within distance of the check in station.

Doug if we have it at Aeroflex or Swartswood. I could get YOJ’s Sport’s shop rite up the street from Aeroflex to sponsor some ice fishing stuff. Maybe even Simon-Perter’s up the street on RT 206 will be nice & be a sponsor. The only good thing if we have it at Aeroflex or Swartswood there are NO 4 WHEELERS or SNOWMOBILES aloud. So know ones stuff can get ran over. Aeroflex is about 10 min's off of RT 80 exit 25 RT 206 north it's 2 min's off of RT 206 . Swartswood is about 30 to 35 min's off of RT 80. If you need help let me know

My bass club has tournaments in aeroflex and swartswood.We had to call the state and let them know we were having a tournament.I do not know if you guys would have to do the same.It does not cost any thing.

YOJ Sports is having their 4th annual ice derby on Jan. 28 & 29 at Kitt. State Park in Andover. There are over $1,000 in prizes which includes a Jiffy Power Auger, $100 cash awards, rod and reel combos and $50 gift certificates for our store. The proceeds go the Lake AeroFlex Trout Club for their trout stocking program. The overall winner for the heaviest trout, bass or pickerel will be crowned "King of the Ice". Newton High School students competed to see who could make the most creative crown. The winner was Ms. Jamie Whipple and she won $50 for her effort. I would like to try a new lake, just as long as the ice is safe and it is easy to get to

. I would like to see it on a Sat. this way we can stay another day to fish. I just hope it does not overlap with other tournaments in the area.

sorry i have been out of touch,my step-father just passed away.I would like to see it on hopatcong because you have a variety of fish from sunnys to muskies.

Hey Shawn,
I drove by Hopatcong today and it was open water with the exceptions of the coves and they didn't look safe. I dont' know how good Swartswood will be either since rumor has it that it's been lowered quite a bit this year. I haven't looked at Aeroflex yet, but if Hopatcong is any indication of what the larger lakes are like we're going to need a real big deep freeze before the ice is safe.

I took a ride up to hopatcong and saw the open water with a forecast of 57 deg. today. This is turning into a stinker of a year!!!!!!!!!!
And there is no real change in the weather pattern--mild mild mild!

Feb 11th sounds good to me at wherever theres ice in NJ.

Wouldn't have been able to make it on the 4th cuz theres a tourney out here by me.
