Cut Bait questions
« on: Sep 17, 2011, 05:57 AM »
I want to try cut bait, Lakers & Eyes but know little about it.  Here in NY bait regs are strict.
What species do you use and how do you slice it.

Thanks

I take a fillet off a sucker, skin it and cut it 1"wide by 4" long. I cut a slice down the middle halfway in and  hook it on the jig like a bass jig trailer.

I will take a shiner and slice down the back bone from the head to the tail without cutting thru the belly and hook that on a jig the same way. when I prep bait like this ,it flutters better on the fall and it helps to trigger Strikes !

Ahh, there was the guy 20 feet to the right of my shanty and he "caught" some lakers and we never saw them. But he was the only one catching fish there.
