Title: Livescope run time on Milwaukee batteries?
Post by: jerryfishing on Mar 23, 2023, 07:30 PM
I was wondering how long of a run time are you guys getting using Livescope and Milwaukee batteries?

I didn't run Milwaukee but I did run5Amp Dewalts and I would get 3.5 to 4 hours depending on the temp. I switched to a Norsk 16V 32 AMP and I've gotten two 8 hour days in colder temps. Hope this helps.

I used my M18 batteries for a while with my Helix5 flasher set up.  Worked great...for a while.  The only thing I didn't like was I burned up a battery doing that.  When the batteries are paired with Milwaukee tools they have a shut off voltage.  The tool does not let the battery drain past a certain voltage.  The battery does not have that say.  When using the batteries with voltage adapters, they do not shut down the battery at a certain voltage.  If the battery is too low of a voltage, it could be that the factory charger will not "see" the battery.  That happened to me, I allowed the battery to be discharged too low.  Nothing I did could revive the battery.  So pretty much $100 battery, garbage.  I switched my setup to a LithiumIon Amped Ion 19ah  battery.  No worry of destroying the battery, lasted a very long time, and is cost effective.

Thank you guys for input. I guess I will stick with my Amped and Dakota batteries. I hoping to make my Livescope  shuttle a little lighter for my quick afternoon trips.

If you you are able to change the battery before the voltage drops too low, or put a low voltage shut of on it somehow, it would work fine.  Definatly nice having the smaller packahe and weight, while being able to change ge the battery out quickly.

Pudsky- I think you can recharge your battery again by pairing it with another charged battery of the same voltage. Connect batteries in parallel not series and the charger will recognize the batteries and recharge low battery. There are a few videos on YouTube. Thanks for info and good luck getting battery usable again.

Garmin sonars have a voltage alarm- you can set them so that you get an alarm when they get below a threshold. I have never needed that with a straight 73SV with an ice kit, as long as I used 4AH batteries, but the 2 AH would sometimes run out in a day. I assume live scope would require several batteries for a day.

Oh, if you use a DC-DC converter to supply 12V to the unit, this won't work, since the Garmin is getting 12V until the battery dies. I hook mine up direct, and use the Garmin internal voltage converter to make what the flasher needs. I am not the first to do it this way- Garmin specs say it can handle a pretty wide voltage range. You can calibrate the voltage by checking the bars on the battery, and when it gets to 1 bar, look at the voltage on the screen.

You can "jump start" the battery using wire or paperclip.   Ive done it with a couple of mine I got from work.   Look it up.   Its been a while since Ive had to do that.  It seems to reset the electronics on it.  Of course they dont recommend it as they want you to buy new....

I tried that, even left the dead battery connected to a fully charged battery overnight.  I even hooked up the charger for my 14.8ah lithium battery to it to see if I could get it charged enough to talk with the Milwaukee charger, but to no avail.  I switched to standard lithium ion batteries for my electronics.  I use my M18 batteries for my Pistol bit, lantern and power source for led strip lights in the hub.  I have a bunch for work, so it's nice to be able to use them fishing and coping too!

I was able to jump a 12 A and a 5A that were overused at work and were considered trash, so I got some extra batteries for free!!  Some times you get lucky.  LOL
