Just got back from 1st rifle elk in the northwest part of the state.  Hot as hell at 10k.  I did see some ice form in the morning on puddles in a very shaded north drainage.  My guess is first or second week in November for fish able ice, but I haven't studied the forecast lately.

The wonks that study this years' El Neenyo forecast a lot of moisture for California and the South but I haven't seen any predictions for the Rocky Mountains. We need enough cold to cap the lakes but not so much snow that you can't drag a sled.  Guess we'll see.

The ice will come when its a gonna come.   With an El-Nino winter it means more pacific systems which are warmer and wetter than usual.  May be a tough early ice year.   But thats fine cause open water has been very good to me. Ill just keep pounding it till it gets hard- ;D

I'm the better looking one in this scenario but I think my b***hing days are behind me. When you get this deep into the 4th quarter nobody cares what you say anyway. Better to spend these golden days with the mental picture of Slayer pounding it 'til it gets hard.

Being grumpy just isn't something you want to do when you get old. Doesn't do you or anyone else any good. Enjoy your days while you can. 
If I am not fishing I am either Thinking about it or shopping for more stuff I don't need. After looking at all my ice gear it appears I have done a lot of shopping the last few years. Oh well ,with 7 Grand kids I guess they will all have more than they need when I'm gone.

I LOVE fishing the Gaps.  Started serious ice fishing last year, and had a riot.  Can't wait to get going again.  Gonna hit Chambers as well this year!  Would REALLY like to latch into a laker.

Speaking of the fork, have any of you guys done any good for pike through the ice there?  I've cought plenty during the summer but have only fished for lakers there in the winter.  I want to get into some pike this year.  I know elevenmile is good but it's a long drive for me.
