Title: Phoebe's work?
Post by: falkon on Jan 19, 2005, 04:59 PM
I'm new to ice jigging. I was wondering if anybody has any experiences jigging with phoebes? Are they decent? How would you suggest using them? Also, kastmasters, do they work well? Thanks

Never tried a phoebe before but kastmasters work, caught many a perch and waldo on them.

Phoebe's are a weapon, but you didn't hear it from me...  8)
Try a gold one and bang it right on the bottom!

great. Thanks for all of your replies. I'm loaded with phoebes and kastmasters from normal season so I'll be bringing them out this weekend.

I have landed many perch and some nice LM Bass on the kastmasters. I am going to give the phoebe a shot this season.

I use assorted sized gold pheobes often for jigging and have nailed pretty much everything from lakers to perch...no northerns though.

Had a really slow day today, but just before dark I put out a Phoebe under a slib bobber. Was fooling around, trying to get the depth set, and noticed a fish on my flasher. Jiggged it a few times and wham! Next thing you know I'm icing a 12'' perch, by far the best fish of the trip. Only wish I had tried it sooner..... Next time!

check out the fall motion of the pheobes when you drop one down the hole...it's pretty erratic and full of different angles of flash

The perch finish works for me; it's gold on the back, anyway. Also, I swapped out the hook as per another thread; thanks Pas!

Didn't get a chance for a thorough test as it was getting dark. All I can say is, the Phoebe went in the hole, jigged it a couple of times, and caught a real nice perch.(Tasty, too! Is that redundant?) All our ice is gone, but you can bet I will be investigating in the future. The blue and silver Kastmaster with the same hook set-up proved quite effective on a previous trip. If I can pull off another trip upstate, more field testing will occur.
