I zoomed in and then was startled. Good pic, bad catch.

Yeah it was a pretty good fight. Thought I had a nice pike. Funny you say that bc I did ended up on onota later in the day thinking the otter scared off anything in the area.

That's just plain crazy to think of catching something like that through the ice and what are the chances. But there's the proof.

Soon I guess I need to add otters to my list?  How deep? What bait? Where on the lake?  How was the ice?  What where you thinking about when you caught it?

I know what I would have been thinking if something like that popped up out of my hole - - How the @!$#^% do I get this off my line?

So how did you get him off yours?

Did he spit out the shiner, or did you have to unhook him yourself?

Jon, 48 years ago my buddy and our wife’s were fishing in your area, Colebrook Res. We spotted an otter come up thru one of our holes and watched it steal one of our perch that was laying on the ice. We fed it a few more and that was the highlight that trip.

TBH, I cut my line.  I had a short leader and cut the line well below my split shot so I got as close to the hook as I was comfortable.  It looked like it was hooked in the paw and being alone I was not about to get bit.  They pretty intelligent creatures.  I'm sure he's already figured out how to get it out.
