Title: Webster Lake
Post by: trying to catch a biggie on Jan 21, 2021, 07:24 AM
Hey guys. I saw in the news paper paper today a few guys photographed finishing Webster lake. Any ice reports? I am surprised that lake is even locked up. I know I will need to check the ice before venturing out, just wondering what people are seeing. Thanks everyone

I haven't personally seen anyone out there yet. The ski jump is still open water, Waterfront Mary's just skimmed over recently so that isn't quite ready yet.

80% open water as of 4 hours ago. skim ice that could barely support a seagull everywhere else. must of been an old photo. don't think it's going to happen this year

I think it will be fishable in some spots next weekend, the pumping station has had a skim coat for a few days, it will only add ice over the next week.

Any amount of wind on that lake will blow it open

Wow. Was on 395 south and I saw the lake was wide open on Sunday with white caps. Hopefully by this weekend we will have safe ice around

Over 1000 acres there's fishable ice just have to look and hopefully find a homeowner that will.give access.  Its home turf for me but I hate the place yes still can find all the species including pike but the tournys ruined it for me

I hear stories about the pike in there. They must be left overs from years ago right? Theres no way they spawn in there.

Saw some people out this weekend. Took my ice bar out maybe 4-5 inches. Main lake is not ready. Do you think with this slight warmup, heavy snow, and maybe rain Friday is going to ruin all that is there for this weekend? Or maybe just get rid of some snow on top of the ice.

Thank guys

I am curious why you say that pike won’t spawn in Webster?

there are pike in there. not an easy place to catch them. I have never had a pike encounter there but have talked to locals who have had encounters

The pike that were put in there in the early nineties did very well. They say that Webster Lake is a perfect environment for them. And the state took very good care of them by feeding them those delicious trout several times a year...

I saw a young kid 5 or 6 years ago catch one by Waterfronts, it was maybe 15" long. I definitely think they spawn in there, obviously not in huge numbers but they are there.

Great question.  I'm hoping someone chimes in before it gets too late in the day today.

Temperatures are not looking good this week. Still had good ice this past weekend on the lake. Do you guys thing with the 40+ degrees coming the ice will survive until Saturday?

You are the best judge. Use a spud and take your time. So many variables. Old holes, rain, above freezing temps and sun. All do damage, some more than others.

Lets hope all ice is good. I am sure it will be but do not take anyone's word for it.

I fully agree. It’s going to be close. Need to be really careful. I have a weird feeling this weekend will be  the last of it. Onto maple syrup season
