A day on the lake...
« on: Feb 06, 2007, 08:42 PM »
So I got to go out today and do a little fishing.. Well I should of been working but since I am still a student and only working part time for the next few months I can get a way with calling in with some sort of story.. Anyways to say the least the day was pretty slow.. Thought it was going to be a good day right off the bat, got to my normal lake that I fish got a tip up ready put the marcum in the hole to see what was going on.. Started to drop the minnow and POW a northern hit it.. before i even got it set up.. nothing big but hey it was a fish.. and that would be the only one on the tip up for the rest of the day.. did some moving around with all the same results mostly small panfish and did manage to jig up another northern not what i wanted to do!! caught a few crappy towards evening.. but all in all hit 4 different lakes and had the same luck at everyone!! How has everyone else been doing?!

Have not been out much.  I might go this weekend.  I have family up there in Wadena.  Fished a few places around the area.  Not much luck.  Father in law is old school...not that there is anything wrong with that, but don't seem to produce much throwing around 1960 bait cast.  We have a great time though smok'n stoggies and talking baseball.  Good luck to you up in Wadena!!

It was sure cold on Red yesterday! Hard time with the auger starting, inside of my Voyager was solid frost with the heater on high. Lot of space to heat with only one person.
Fishing was slow for the day, cut off by a pike, 2 dink perch, 3 walleye (kept my 2 and released the other) and played chase with some crappie..... they won.
Not much was happening on the Vex for the day..... caught what I seen until those "risers and followers" showed up. Then went o-fer.
Good day none the less. First solo trip, so I thought that I would be moving around more....... with the auger a pain and the cold..... just plopped and dropped for the day.

Monday and Tuesday my brother was over from New Hampshire, and we hit a couple of metro lakes.  Froze some serious nose hair, but otherwise stayed warm in the shanty.  Monday we caught a 20" northern on a tip up and then switched lakes and caught some dink perch for the rest of the day.  Tuesday went back to the first lake and caught 3 northerns and lost one.  The biggest was only 25", but still fun to drap up.  Switched lakes for the evening bite, and caught a few dink perch and two 16" walleyes.  He jigged one up, so it was fun to put him on his first walleye.  Need to get up to some northern minnesota lakes to catch some perch worthy of keeping...but having a great time in the metro.

ahhh what i would do to have the luxury of even catching a few pike.. had a great year last year and this year has just been sooo slow.. showed a lot of crappie on the marcum later at night but they didnt want to bite..

Not to give away any secrets, but eagle lake has been a constant for me in about 12-14' of water...Every day there at least one northern over 20".  Not huge, but fun to catch...tight lines
