ion electric ! got one this year, never going back, had my jiffy for 30 years, sold it last week. What a piece of equipment the ION is. Cuts great, battery last long time, never even slows down, read about them and reviews, awsome.

Never thought I'd do it but the ion all the way not even close . Much lighter, no gas , no worries  8" holes through 2' of ice . I've drilled over 20 holes with plenty of power to spare

Strikemaster Lazer on a Clam Drill Plate with the Clam Extension Rod.  Cuts like a hot knife through butter and only weighs 11-3/4 pounds

Have a strikemaster lazer pro 8", 26 pounds, 5th season, 1st year- blew the trans twice! They fixed it and it's been solid ever since, I have thousands of holes on this auger. I have several augers and there is no auger out there that is even close to the speed of this auger, it even smokes my Z71, not just bragg'n 54cc engine is crazy fast!  still using original blades, starts fairly easy

My auger is attached to a drone.  I just fly it around and drill my holes then I have it pull my sled out for me.

I have my 6" lazer attached to a Rigid 18v 4ah lithium with the icemaster adapter... it is awesome!  I haven't tried anything thicker than 16" so far but I can get a ton of holes on a battery. I might pick up a clam drill plate for next season depending on how my setup works in thick ice.

You're setup should work fine on thicker ice but one advantage I like of the Clam Drill Plate is the heavy duty floating bearing that the drill attaches to.  It saves a lot of wear and tear on the drill and transfers more power to the ice.

I just got an Eskimo HC40 propane auger. So far it's awesome. No gas to mess with. Used it when it was 1 degree on Magog. Did not warm the bottle before I started he auger in the morning. 1 pull and it fired up.

I was going to buy an electric, but I do not want to deal with buying more $150 batteries in the future.

the new strikemaster electric auger looks MEAN. watched video of guy drill over 100 holes through 9 inches of ice with a single battery before it even started to get weak. the cost yes its a 550 dollar auger, but i am sure that pays for its self, no propane cost, no fuel cost, no engine oil cost, no mixing gas. and little to no noise on a auger that will drill over 100 holes on a single charge, that is crazyness!
Think I'm gettin abite my flag's twitchin
