that road is packed real good, I think a 2WD can get in there,     I will be bringing my 4WD with chains and a tow rope just in case anyone gets stuck     ;D

Thanks for the report guys. I'll still be going out tomorrow to clear some for parking and knock the bank from the highway down some for the people that have 2wd and cars.

Well me and the wife was out to Gravel Pit Lake today and found a couple of nice surprises. The road in was plowed, very nicely I might add as a car can get in there now and the ice conditions are awesome, with about 3/4" fluffy snow, 2" hard packed snow and about 5-6" of ice.
Here are some pics.

Here's a pic of the ice conditions.

Here's a pic of wannabeabrookiebasher's gang. It was good meeting you guys and gals!

Here's a pic of the parking lot.

And a pic of the road coming in.

I didn't take any gear with me as I thought I would be blowing snow but wannabeabrookiebasher's gang let me have one of there poles to try but the fish didn't want nothing to do with it. How big was the laker you caught? Looking forward to the vid!

Just a little guy,  but it sure pushed my marmish to the limmits,   biggest I got so far on the Marmish.   I had to play it for a while, as you all know how explosive Lakers are in the winter.   video should be up now

How to get to the Meet and Greet
getting there for those peeps that are unaware of gravel pit location.

Trans-Canada Hwy/Yellowhead Hwy W/BC-16 W
39 km. to Kwitzel lake. AKA gravel pit. If you google Kwitzel it will show you the way.

I was wondering if anyone can get a hold of Northern Willow (AKA Tom not sure of last name)? He was a good friend of Terry's. I would like to see him come to the meet and greet.

Well the weather is supposed to be sunny and - 3c on Sunday, so quite nice but the road condition will be quite slippery as it's raining all day and +4c going down to -9c tonight. Hopefully the road and parking lot won't be too bad and the ice conditons could be slushy or it might be alright depending on how much rain fell.

Hi Folks,   I put in a request to YRB to get the road and parking lot plowed out,   we are getting a whole bunch of rain out here right now,   so I think you will be able to get down the road no problem,   but that brings me to the next problem..... the ice,    I know there was ice on GP for a while now, but in comparison,  Cluculz has only been frozen over for a little more than a week,   then there was 4 inches of snow on top of the 4 inches of ice,   and with all the rain we had in the last day,  Cluculz has inches of water now on top of the ice.     I fear this years derby/meet and greet will be a repeat of last years "slush cup"    I have not checked GP lake yet,   but I strongly recommend RUBBER BOOTS,    I'll post a pic of Cluculz, and try to run down to GP to take a pic too

This picture is from Cluculz,     wet, and slushy

OK, so I went to GP this afternoon to see what shape it is in,  the road has not been plowed since it was plowed last week, but it isnt too bad,    I drove in and out in 2WD,   the lake is in wayyyy better shape than Cluculz,  it is still slushy though.   There are areas that have wet snow though, and these spots are the best to stay relatively dry,   I took the following pics to demonstrate both areas,   if anyone has snowshoes, you should bring them, wearing them you shouldent get your feet wet at all,   if you have kids that will be playing on the ice, they might get a bit slushy    :(    I would say rubber boots are a must,   I dont think it will be as bad as last year though.    I'm sure a front wheel drive car can get in to the lake no problem.

DARK SPOTS ARE STANDING WATER

LOTS OF AREAS WITH SNOW LIKE THIS WHERE YOU CAN PACK IT DOWN TO STAY DRY

this is the depth of slush snow in the parking lot
