not for gills but works great for shiners/suckers

Yep I like mine on the hooks of my fork when eating a salad with some 'gill fillets ;D.

Never (really) tried it myself, but know a couple of guys that swear by it on Perch. They take a slice of raw bacon and cross-cut strips about an 1/8" wide, tip lure with it. Nice action when jigging. Simply its smell would make me hungry, already carry more than enough stuff.

When you're out of bait, or you aren't catching, try anything!

Was goofing off in Long Island Sound with a friend a few years ago, and we were whacking porgy real good. Until we ran out of bait. Didn't want to leave, so i opened up my lunch bag and sacrificed a roast beef sandwich. Roast beef and swiss doesn't hold on a hook like squid strips, but it will catch porgy.  ;D
