Why bluegills?
« on: Feb 10, 2006, 04:35 PM »
Why bluegills? They seem like a junk fish where we fish and noone wants them.  Must be the area.

Too much ahssle for the meat?

I would rather catch 20 7in gills then a single pike- yuck!

Panfish taste great and the fillets are bite sized!

They taste good. They are usually abundant, and when they reach 7 inches or larger they can put up a good fight on an ultralight with 2 pound line.

They're about the best tasting fish I ever had. My wife likes catching them which means I get to spend more time fishing. Good enough for me!

I think it has pretty much all been said, but here goes again...they fight great, they taste great.

I started fishing for them on a lake that I pike fish, set up the tip-ups for pike and jig away for gills while you wait, makes a great day on the ice
