cut a minnow into strips, head piece works real well.  i usually take the leftover minnows from my last trip out freeze um then next time i go out i got some already dead minnows just waiting to be cut up, works real well on both panfish bass and pickeral

For panfish the best thing to tip jigs with is a maggot or two. If you can't find that, a waxworm or a small piece of crawler is best.

Another vote for maggots: they're rugged, they catch every kind of panfish I go after,(gills, seeds, perch, crappie) and they are cheap if you buy in bulk.

Could not have said it any better myself. The Berkly Maggots last longer then live bait and they really do get the job done

I use waxworms or spikes. But there are times when plastic will out fish live bait. Something about those little wedgie plastics that the perch love. :)

i make sure i have a package of the powerbait magots with me all the time while ice fishing. i think they work just as good as real magots and they last longer. i tip every jig i use with magots of some kind when ice fishing. last year i caught a 28 inch walleye jigging a #12 kastmaster tipped with the powerbait magots.

Spikes are the best goto bait for gills.

It just seems a good part of the time you can get away with catching lots of gills, crappies too, on tiny plastics only and tipping is not required.

Hey Slipbob, do you still agree with this statement ;D

i prefer waxies, but then come spikes, mealies, earthworms, no bait.
