Title: Best knot for horizontals
Post by: BEAVERTAIL on Mar 06, 2011, 05:06 AM
Which is the best knot to use to keep horizontal jigs horizontal as you jig them?

I do the improved clinch knot and make sure the knot is slid down tight then check it ever now and then in case I need to readjust.

I do the same but when I thread the line through the eye I thread the line once in front of the main line and once behind then the improved clinch knot.  Seems to help keep the line centered.

Thanks for the replies, very helpful.  Yesterday before I went fishing I was looking at the rod and horizontal jig that was giving me the problem. I noticed that I had used 2# Fire line for my leader.  I changed it to 4# super limp Stren, tied the jig with a clinch knot.  Fished that rig yesterday evening and it worked perfect.  I think the Fire line is either too slippery or because of its surface texture does not tighten up real tight when you use a clinch knot.  I'm begining to think that Fire line is not good for tippets/leaders.

Surgeons Loop, lets it do its thing without any type of line interference

I prefer a loop knot as well, though not sure what it's official name is. It helps reduce spinning, and as stated above allows freedom of movement to your lure. Lure don't always hang at a 90 degree angle, but apparently fish don't use protractors. ;D

The perfection loop.  Can be tied with frozen fingers.
