the truth is there is not 6 inches anywhere, that I have physically checked. even small bodies of water. Just be safe man and check for yourself and never go off of what someone else told you. and common sense that first ice is on foot not machines...tons of people have not even been able to get out of foot yet, anyone out anywhere in NY on a machine this early is really taking a big risk.

There was 6 - 8 inches on lake pleasant on 12/9. Most definitely more than 8 inches now. Fishing was slow as usual. 5 perch, 2 of them were 14 inch slobs. If you want a good day of fishing there or sacandaga you need to jig up smelt and put them on tip ups. Good luck, they're not easy to get to bite there for some reason. Marked plenty all morning but no takers. Good spots for trout and/or walleye are long, long walks from any of the access points. There are nice fish in these lakes but like I said, you need smelt or you don't have a chance. If you catch lake trout on pleasant or sacandaga, be sure to put them back. There is no winter season open for them yet. The local ENCON officer won't think twice about writing you a ticket. Personally, I think these lakes are not worth a lengthy drive to fish. Good luck.

Good luck NJ, between all the conflicting info you're getting and the warmup forecasted for the weekend, it looks like you just need to get up there and figure out the conditions for yourself. Be safe and post some fish pics! ECO Pierce is definitely the "tough but fair" type, as long as you're not doing anything wrong hes a decent guy- just make sure you have atv reg, helmet, 7 lines max, bait receipt, proper number of fish etc.

If you stumble upon a trout in those waters consider yourself very lucky and while it's legal to keep please consider releasing it because they are so rare.

th

Someone standing on the ice posted this. If you didn't hear of someone going thru the ice on Lake Pleasant, it could be true!

Trout is defined as brown, brook, rainbow, splake, and hybrids of theses species. I repeat, there is NO special season for Lake Trout on pleasant or sacandaga.

Must have overlooked the "lake" in your post. My comment was aimed at the very low numbers of browns.

Just trying to save someone a ticket. NYS regs cab be tricky.
