I was on monday.shore ice very bad,but once you got onto the main lake ice was decent.8-10".It was losing its quality. The cold snap over the next day might tighten it up.the snow won't help matters.

Someone went thru the ice over by Griffiths marina and lost his auger, tip ups and vex.  There is current there from turkey creek I think, so avoid that area if you venture out.

I just heard a buddy of mine went thru a few miles east of there.  He's at home warming up.

Bigger lakes unfreeze alot slower than small ponds.  I have been on porter county Indiana lakes all week and have not found under 8" of ice yet.  A bit thin near a storm drain but thats all.  So you have to check each lake each time you go out at the end of the season.  I bet Maxi willhave safe ice and wawasee too.  Where are you guys coming from that are going to wawasee this weekend??

On Wawasee or another lake?  Or is the lake a secret that he went in at?

Coming from grant county..haven't ice fished wawasee for about 7 years, so im really sure where i'll be trying to get on at or where I would have the best luck.  I just want to be sure its safe ice before I head all the way up there.

haha..yes I could use a little help!  Cant fish anywhere around here...all open water & just have to get on ice one more time.  Thought about going out around the marina or possibly around ogden..not really sure.  Anywhere I can get on safely & catch a few is where I wanna go.

Not sure what marina you are thinking about, but if it is Griffiths I would stay clear of there.  Someone went thru there this week and lost his auger, tipups, and vex.  Sorry, I can't help you with conditions on the lake, as I have not checked them myself.

yeah i was thinking of going near griffiths...but after hearing that I am definitely gonna stay away from that spot.  I just dont really know the lake too well to know where to go to stand a chance of catching anything.  Now  and all other lakes around my area like  salamonie, mississinewa etc...I know them like that back of my hand, but just not real certain about wawasee

I wouldn't go anywhere alone after the thaw we had.  Take a buddy, a pfd, rope, spikes and change of clothes to get warm if you do go in and get out.  If I could help you out on Wawasee I would, but with the limited access points and not knowing the conditions out there first hand, I can't be of much help.
