Wait a minute? You're Snot Rocket.   ;D

We try to avoid the "hammer handles" and focus on "gators"

We call pickerel "weed kings."

Here in SK we refer to them sometimes as:

pike
hammer-handles
gators
slew[I'm not sure how to spell that word  :-\] sharks
jacks
jack fish
water wolf

...ummm  I think that is it...

LOL on the F'n pike thing. kind of like the time a I was pulling in a big Red Snapper and a barracuda flashed by and all i landed was a head...never even felt the barracuda hit it...some people i talk to (non fisherman) ask what a Pike is ...I tell them it the equivalent to afresh water barracuda.

Up here in northern Alberta they are known as jackfish, slough sharks, slough snakes, or slimers...

littleoldlady...do you happen to know why they are refered to as slough sharks/ slough snakes? is slough prounounced as sluff or slow?reason i ask...in my profession slough (pronounced sluff) refers  to a wound(on a person) and is in reference to yellow , dead tissue.

Dear SR, It is pronounced "slew"...and a slough is a shallow, weedy lake...pike territory.  Hence the name.
