So what do you do when you go through the ice after you get yourself out?

Like, i imagine stripping naked and rushing home for a warm shower.

i stick my arms into holes most times i go out, up to my shoulder some times, and that was is very cold.

i mean once you are out of the water , is there really an emergency?

It completely depends on the situation. If it's 15 degrees out and the wind is 20 mph and you were in the water for a minute before you finally pulled yourself out, and you were a 20 minute walk to your car or to anywhere, You might be in trouble. If you're in and out of the water in a second or two and it's not windy or super cold you'll probably be able to just stay out there. However if you're in the water for any amount of time your body temperature will drop fast. I think most of us on here that read posts daily understand the risk. I wear my ice picks and float suit from first ice with an inch and a half to 22 in of ice mid February. And if I'm by myself I have a rewarming stuff in the car and I'm always cognizant of where I am on the lake and how far I am from everything.

A YouTuber I took out ice fishing early this year who is a pretty knowledgeable guy and after meeting him you wouldn't think this guy would get himself into trouble, almost died last year from falling in and not being able to pull himself out because of weird circumstances. Look it up in Milliken fishing, he did a couple videos about it. Scary stuff.

Wow, Jon.  That guy was really fortunate.  The way those docks are built, no way to get yourself out.  On another note, I gotta use a pimp more.

I got out fished and only managed three, not including a charity fish from Nate.  Biggest was 12”.  All fillets co-starred with venison Italian sausage in some cioppino.

Below is the recipe I used.  I used anise root instead of fennel.  I put some extra crushed tomatoes in since it came out chunky at first due to larger vegetables, and you need enough liquid component to poach the fish in. Hard to tell from the pic but it’s well balanced with all ingredients.

Excellent, thanks!  Rinella and folks over there at The Meat Eater really know their stuff.  Gotta try a few more of their recipes.  Their podcast you introduced me to is great, too.
