11 Mile on Sunday
« on: Dec 23, 2013, 08:18 AM »
Fished 11 mile on Sunday at Cross Creek. Iced 6 Rainbows and 1 Pike. Pike was 24".  Lost 3 other bows, two at the hole and one break off.  Seen 4 other pike cruise through the hole.  Was fishing in 6ft of water. Water clarity is still pretty cloudy. Ice about 12".  Highlight of the day was my personal best rainbow to date.  24", 5lbs. Pics to come....

Congratulations on the PB rainbow. It is a lot of fun to catch a trout that big and land it through the ice.

Nice fish.  The wife and I used to fish Eleven Mile all the time, really miss it since moving to the other side of the state.

I love the taste of trout. Especially when they are caught through the ice. Hard to beat grilled trout......that is unless we are talking about pan fried walleye.... then it is just a whole new sport let alone league.

looks like a rainbow to me. Cutbow would have a reddish colored gill plate

Could go either way, looks like a little slash under the jaw that would give the nod to a little cutty in it. Regardless its a great looking fish.

I've caught a couple of cutbows before. I do believe that this one was just a rainbow. That is unless they can be something along the lines of 1/4 cutbow and 3/4 rainbow. definitely not a 50/50 fish

They are really common in my old stomping grounds in south east idaho ( henry's lake, and south fork of the snake river). Ive seen them all the way from barely having the slash to cutty colors but with the red band down the side like a rainbow. It really varies. Regardless of pure strain or not thats one to be proud of.

Cavscout I agree with you trout is great.  This is the 26 inch 6 pound rainbow we caught last year and it was by far the best fish I've ever eaten.  Even had a little sushi and I don't think I can ever beat it!

Cavscout, looking a little closer I did notice the small slash. I think you are correct in saying 1/4 cut and 3/4 rainbow. Either way that is one check of a fish. Congrats!
