Feb 19/Lake Wpg (pics)
« on: Feb 20, 2015, 12:39 AM »
just wanted to share todays adventure and pictures ,  since this site is falling short of share's and info

me and Dave had a Adventure on lake wpg today .  travel on lake wpg is full size 4x4 truck accessible , just dodge the snow drifts and if you hit a drift hammer down..

we caught fish like they were going out of style ,

me and friends are catching so many fish in the 20-24" that we stop taking pictures of them .  are rule is 25" +

today I was watching the flasher. omg the biggest red mark was chasing my lure ,

pause, pause , jig ,jig   jig jig pause.

set the hook and holy moly its heavy ,  a true fishing partner will drop everything and run over to take out your transducers and help with the capture of the fish..  well tell ya my fishing buddy dave is a pro.

transducer is out , hovering over hole waiting for the surprise ,

oh big heads shakes, oh sh%t its big..

THEN.. get to the hole this mother sucker wont come up the hole. (10" hole)
let line out try again ,  nope .

me and dave are like aw sh%t its a big pike , no wait IT'S a silver bass , no its a coho salmon ,

we tried for 10 mins to wedge it up the hole , dave stuck his arm down the hole

.(lake wpg bring a extension for your auger ice is thick)  he couldn't  come close to grabbing the fish with him being shoulder deep .. plan b ,  shovel handle ..  nope

we can see the fish at the bottom of the ice , were pretty sure its a beast walleye , grab flashlight and shine it down the hole and sure **** , its a walleye..

now 20 mins have passed fish is still on ...

Dave's like lets just drill a hole beside it...

well we all have had the day dream of that fish that wont fit up the hole and

what do we do if this happens?

well today we got to test that day dream ..

so I held the line to farside of the hole and dave fired up the auger
hes drilling now the fish want to go for a run , cause the fish is scared ****less of the auger sounds

stop stop dave , line going towards the spinning auger blade , so it was a slow process , drill alittle , scoop out the slush that's flying everywhere

well we laughed and were stress all at the same time

dave was almost through when the auger sucked the fish up the hole and BOOM .

ITS A 22" FATTY WALLEYE ,( AW SHOOT .. no beast.)
i snagged  it on its side fin ... lol   we wished we would of video tape the stuggle lol

in one of the pictures you can see the double hole we had to drill to save my favorite lure and fish

geez what adventure , minus the master walleyes we caught today and catching perch on live forage rattle baits and dodging snow drifts , so much happened today .  GOODTIMES

here's some up to date photo's of travel on the lake 5 to 10km out on the lake and few fish pics

Looks like a damn fine day, thanks for the report!  I'll be headed up there in a couple weeks.  Where did you drive onto the lake, is that Chalet Beach?

Yes sir
The pictures of trails is chalet beach
Warner road access
They plowed a nice parking lot
U can drive to the west side of river mouth
No problem
But gets alittle deeper snow and bumpy and ruff ice once u near center part
Of the mouth
Driving more north might get u around to east side of the mouth

Great report and pics as usual Mikey!

LOL familiar situation ... so many times felt like a huge fish on but was only a small or medium size of any species (even perch) snagged on the belly, back, tail, gill plate, etc.
