Ice fishing GPS units on rigs
« on: Sep 14, 2023, 11:48 AM »
I was looking at options for mounting a Lowrance Elite 5 on my 2021 Polaris Sportsman ATV and my 94 Trail Deluxe 2 up.  May have answered my own question...thoughts?

For the snowmobile:
https://rammount.com/products/rap-101u-lo11?variant=41937233019030
https://www.amazon.com/Lowrance-CA-8-Cigarette-Power-Cable/dp/B000OTORG0
https://www.amazon.com/cart/smart-wagon?newItems=26f0e4a4-307e-45ed-ad25-35183bf547ec,1&ref_=sw_refresh

For the ATV (already has 12v receptacle):
https://rammount.com/products/ram-231zu?variant=41937069015190

I could run a dedicated vex battery on each but only plan to use the unit for navigation and way points, turning it off when I arrive at the spot to fish each time.  If I forget I have pull start on the sled and carry a jump pack with me while out for such emergencies.

This is what I did on my Sportsman last year. They make a Ram mount that replaces the top clamp for the brake lever.

Hard to beat RAM for all your mounting solutions . I dont even think there are knock off solutions available .

I found the right cable for the power on Elite to cigarette 12v adpater...had to go on ebay.

IceFishin Joe, that a B size ball ram mount?  I may switch and go that route!  Ordered C size stuff but if b will hold it all the better.

I have a Helix 5 on a "B" setup for my Ski Doo.  I only use it for marking and navigating to waypoints but it works great for me! Instead of wiring to battery on the sled I opted to use one of the small power boxes I made a few years ago.  Its a good use of my old SLA batteries and it fits nicely down by my boot without issue.  No draw on my sled battery which is the 6 year old original.

I got the power cord and the C ball for the ATV handlebars.  The 12v adapter works in my truck put isn't getting power form the ATV 12v outlet.  Wonder if I blew a fuse, but the ATV is brand new (less than 100 miles).  I'll dig in deeper once the other parts come in for the snowmobile.

New ATVs sometimes experience small electrical problems like this. Since you have received all your snowmobile parts, use this time to check and replace the fuses (if necessary). It's an easy fix and you'll be back to using your ATV without any issues.
