Milwaukee 12Amp Battery
« on: Sep 11, 2023, 09:17 AM »
I bought a Pistol bit and 2904 Milwaukee for last season start. The batteries were 2x 5 amp that came with it were fine until later in the season when the ice was thicker. We got by but hole count was way down. I was thinking last year maybe going 2x9 amp this year but looks like they are disco now. Now thought is maybe a 12 amp may be OK plus the originals for backup. Anyone here have any real life 12 amp experience? Otherwise this setup works great.

Although I dont deal with ice thicknesses like you experience ...bigger is always better..my 9ah is my goto on most days

Just dont go aftermarket/knockoffs....EVER

My high demand 9amp held up to 25 holes in 4ft of ice on a -20C day. Running a Milwaukee 2804-20 on a clam plate with a 8" pistol bit with centering point. Wasn't enough holes for me, so this year I upgraded to the ion alpha with 2 batteries.

I would suggest the high output batteries, they will give more power than the xc 5.0 batteries you have.  They are good for higher demand tools like the chain saw, so should work better.  Or maybe look at the new forge batteries.

I have 2  12ah batteries i run my livescope with one and a 2904 milwaukee with a 7.5 k drill and take a 9ah  for a spare , I haven't used livescope long enough to get a good read on the operating time but i've used the the kdrill enough to run one 3/4 out on 30" of ice drilling for 3 guys no problems with cold or any other issues yet . I also use a 9AH  m12 for my garmin fishfinder (it's a knockoff) so far so good with all guess it depends on how many holes you drill and length your on ice (for fishfinder) but i have a few spares i take in case

I’ve been running a 12ah battery for a few years in central Michigan with an 8” Lazer hand auger. With 18” of ice I stopped counting holes at 60.

the 12a battery is an absolute beast..the 5amp works well and will drill holes but the 12a is worth the upgrade if you do a lot of holes and the ice is thick..I highly recommend it

Well, now there’s this to consider. The new XC6.0 Forge battery. It looks extremely promising.

Saw that but like any new electronics version 1.0 usually has issues. I think I would stick to the known to work one for now. Future looks interesting though.

I believe Milwaukee will be putting out a 12ah Forge battery next year ... sure to be pricey .
