Here in the North East I have always done very well with a Swedish Pimple, but I have been nailing the BIG ones on a Salmo Chubby!

My favorite lure is a Shuck's jigging spoon (Or a Hali or a Kodiak perpetual motion- they're all awesome but Shuck's cost the least $)  and you're as likely to catch whatever is swimming by as a perch. The chain hook seems to be the best part, I've put a chain hook on a pimple and it works great that way too. Different colors depending on the fish's taste.

#10, 2" gold swedish pimple with a perch eye, or as many spikes that will fit on the hook.

For less aggressive fish 1/8th oz PK spoon in red dot glow or fire tiger with a gill pill or rat fink dropper (tipped with waxies or part of a night crawler) 2 1/4" to 2 1/2" below the spoon. Used to use a swedish pimple with the dropper but seem to be catching more with the smallest PK now. For more aggressive fish will go without the dropper and use a minnow head on the spoon or smallest chubby darter in perch pattern. Also have always done well with a jig head tipped with whole minnow where minnows can be had here.

Don't give up on the larger spoons.  Our ProStaff often use 3/8th oz PK Spoons and Flutterfish when they're fishing aggressive perch to keep the anklebiters offline and focus on the jumbos.  On a fast day there's no point in spending your time teasing a hook out of small fish when there are hungry chunks cruising below the ice.  On the plus side, you'll often pick up a bycatch walleye or midsize pike.  Of course, if you're fishing with kids and want to keep them occupied, just slip on a 1/4 oz or 1/8 oz, tip with a waxie or spikes, and keep the pliers handy...

I'm new to this jigging game guys - and I notice a lot of you mention the Halie jigs as being especially good for Perch. I went to their web site and there are an awful lot of different Halie jigs - do you mind telling me which Halie jig you are using?
  Thanks,

Thank you for the reply - but I didn't mean (what color?) I meant -  what shape and weight. Have you ever gone into the Halie jig website? There are all shapes and sizes from several ounces to real tiny and they each have a different name. It's confusing to a new guy.

  Thanks again,

Thanks guy, lol - I already have a bunch of pimples that I use casting for perch and sunnies and gills in the summer - I just have never used them ice fishing - don't know why really.

Thank you Mark - that is what I was wanting to know. I will try to find some up here but I will probably have to get them on line.
