Ice Shanty Community.
I ask that you please keep an eye for a complete setup $1600 worth of gear stolen from my pickup in Kalispell Today Dec 21, 2014.
I know my gear and can describe many identifiable traits.
:( I have been having a very successful early season. My oldest boy who is 5 is a master cut throat fisherman. Out fishing me for biggest this year so far.
???
-
Ugh! This sucks! Was truck at your home
Or someplace there might've been cameras?
Anything specific we should keep an eye out for that will easily confirm your gear has been spotted?
-
Already have had sheriff look.
I feel like a world class fisherman striped of all his gadgetry. I must now fish without the luxury of modern technology. Utilizing the basics I will be come more of a master on the ice and utilize my inner scenes to be successful on the ice.
-
Who am I kidding.
This is a sad day. What am I going to do?
-
SUCKS!!! HATE THIS CRAP... >:( let the pawn shops know too and just know this person or persons has some serious bad juju coming. You can't hide from that. Wish you were closer I've got a shelter I would happily give to you and your boy(its a frabil tho, no clam gear for me). Maybe if Mike Howe ;) makes it down here for the NAIFC qualifier I can send it back with him. Anyone else that can help make that happen let me know please! Don't let this spoil your holidays buddy! Good Luck
-
I've got a new rod\reel combo you can have. It's nothing special but you can have it. Probably
Cost more in gas to come get it than it's probably worth.
-
Awe dude!
Your are a generous man! BackCountry Kyle
I do have another shelter, just not the Clam Guide which is my primary. cause its portable Other is a large double Frabill that gets used for family outings.
-
Thanks Missoula fish.
I am fortunate to have all necessary items to get back on the ice. Just not all my fancy gear that makes life so easy. The stuff I use every day. >:(
-
That stinks! Maby time to start branding a "L" in the middle of the forehead of anyone over 18 that gets caught for stealing.
That way you would know who these LOSERS are that steal from other people.
I'm not too fond of thieves, and can only hope that they get caught. Good luck on getting your gear back.
-
Definitely check the pawn shops! We had stuff stolen this time last year and were able to track some items down ourselves just by checking into pawn shops on a regular basis. Good luck!
-
Make sure and report the items to EACH of the city's and the Sheriff. They don't share info.
-
Homeowners insurance cover it? When all my stereo equip was stolen from my vehicle, my homeowners insurance covered it with no questions asked.
-
Good call. Check with your insurance company. Might get lucky.
-
Sorry man that's a bummer deal. I've got into the habit of locking my auger, propanetank, heater n shack handles with a bike lock 2 the loops that r welded in the back of my truck, even if I'm running into the store just for maggots. I've read a lot of icefishing gear disappearing on this website. Just started 2 lock my stuff this year. Got a lot of money invested into this game. Sorry for your loss.
-
I broke down and purchased the leer style camper shell top for my pick up. The window locks and the windows are tinted. Makes the truck not look so tough but I can lock my stuff in the back and it's mostly out of site and out of mind. Sorry for your loss. It's terrible that people steal other peoples hard earned gear. I hope you can at least recover some of it. Maybe Check craigslist.
-
Sorry to hear about that. I'll start spreading the word to my friends outside ice shanty. Anything we should look for?
-
Nothing worse than a thief!!!!
-
That stinks. (Worse than that). Second the pawn shop checks and calling your insurance guy if you have homeowners. Also if you want to pm me with a description I can keep an eye out. I fish all over so will look. Though I suspect it was probably stolen by non-fishermen. I too have lots of extra gear if you need something. About the only extra I don't have would be a flasher. Hope you find some/all of your gear.
-
That is not cool. Sorry for your loss and I will keep my eyes and ears open.
-
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Nothing is safe in this world. Some idiots find it easier to steal from someone else instead of working.
What a shame.
-
Check with all your insurance agents, may be covered.
-
Ive got an extra Vexilar FL8 I will let you use until you get a new one if youd like.
-
I feel your pain have the same thing happened to me about 3 years ago
-
When I was young, we were very poor. I never took anything that did not belong to me. I just went without. I have no use for someone who steals, I hope they find them and you get your things back. Guys we live in a different world these days. Keep your eyes open. Its to bad you have lazy people who dont want to take pride in working and buying nice things, They rather take from someone else to support their habit. Scum bags!
-
Thanks for all the support from my fellow Ice fisherman. Without fail there will always be that one person whom just dot understand. I have yet to find any of my stuff, but have found that people are awesome, even though there are the occasional dinks. I have found great appreciation for all of you whom have offered up some gear to help me out. I have faith that the culprit or culprits will get there's. If this drama queen knew anything he would no that I was referring to these pros whom use only the basic Ice fishing equipment to compete at the world level. No house no electronics, just pure skill.
P.S to the guy with the comment. I hope you get stuck in the mud and have no fun.
-
Sorry about your loss ClamGuide. Please don't put us Michiganders in the same category as that one jack nut. He doesn't represent us. The same thing happens in our state too. Good honest hard working people have their stuff stolen from low life thieves. A lot of us also pull together to help out the person who has been victimized by theft.
-
good post rr78
-
Sorry for your loss and so close to Christmas. No rants here ::)
-
sorry for your loss...I hope things work out so you can get that kid back on the ice...so fun fishing with little ones (sometimes)
-
I can't believe this is happening in Montana. Most Montanans aren't raised to become thieves and know that other Montanans usually have a gun. I am sorry for your loss and hope everything works out. If you can describe everything missing, I can at least keep a lookout for you.
-
Sorry to hear about the bad luck. Hope you have a good season with your backup gear. Good luck!!
-
Dont forget to troll craigslist and the mountain trader for your stuff. If they show up for sale, take the sheriff with you to
"look" at it
-
What a worthless person.. how could they do such a thing?? Obviously not a true sprotsman
-
Still prowling the pawn shops and craigslist. No luck yet.
-
Keep an eye on your local lakes,if they havnt been sold they might be using them.
-

So people on this forum offer their condolences for days and people offer you help with equipment. It has been about 28 hours since you announced the "miracle on ice" and you can't find the time to share with them what happened?
I realize I am new here and should perhaps exercise some decorum; but what was the comment the guy from Michigan got castigated for?
-
Wife cleaned and organized the garage? No, that has never happened in the history of guys.
-
Maybe hes in jail after recovering his gear....
-
castigated is better than castrated...guy from Michigan called him a drama queen......why is clam being so clammy..maybe he is out of town....or ..start the conspiracy theories..
-
Maybe hes in jail after recovering his gear....
that is a very interesting theory...but I am sure the nightly news would be all over that...especially if some ass whopin took place...
-
Or just building suspense, perhaps?! ha.
-
On the bright side, maybe, just maybe, I might not be the biggest jerk on this forum after all…
-
there's some pretty big jerks on this forum...myself included....lol....but seriously ice fishin folk are some of the kindest folk you'd ever meet....willing to help out in times of need..thats why this clam issue has so many of us with our panties in a bunch....
-
Who's gonna text him and find out?
-
Maybe he smoked to much and forgot what lake he left it on.
-
Who's gonna text him and find out?

39 POSTS SINCE 2009,Probably checks in once a month.
-
but 6 of those were in a 72 hour window.....I hope you are right.....I am hoping for a good end to this story....
-
Wow!
I guess a guy cant go to work for a few days without checking in on Ice Shanty!
Through networking I was able to recover my gear. I had told a friend about my misfortune. Exactly two weeks later she talked to her cousin. Turned out that he had found the ice house. She gave him my number and he texted me. I drove an hour and all my gear was there. I gave the gentleman my best ice pole setup.
PS: I did not receive any gear from any member of the ice shanty. Even know they were kind enough to lend or give me everything I would have needed.
-
"found it".....?
-
My tail gate will come down. I have 2 bungee cord affixed to the tail gate in case it ever opens. Guess they were not good enough when a guy drives like an ass. I have been all over to all sorts of lakes with my tail gate in this condition and never had a problem.
-
Alright I'm ready!
Go ahead and call me an idiot. I know! \
-
I will give more details.
I had a sheriff look at the video footage from a local grocery store. He said I was parked out of view of the security cameras. This did not sit well with me. I contacted the store manager a week later and got her to look at the video closer and she was able to tell me that the ice house was not in the back of my pick up when I pulled in. The previous store I visited said that the video was clear and no one approached my pickup. So I know the man did not steal my gear. I was very lucky to get my stuff back, no game here.
-
Only if you didn't learn anything from this episode....
-
ok.. i'll bite.....if someone knows they have bungees holding up their tailgate...and they get home and their tailgate is down and all their gear is gone...wouldn't it be logical that it flew out along the highway..not stolen..glad you got your gear back...
-
Yes it would and I did not dismiss this from happening. The bungee cord pulled the tailgate closed. When I filed the police report I had indicated that this was a possibility. There were shovels and they did not shift back in my pick up. I figured that would have moved back. I also figure if someone found my gear that they would call in to the police. This did not happen. Bottom line I made a mistake.
-
Bottom line, I made a mistake.
It seems an honest one, Guide. So glad you have all your gear back. ;)2
I'll guess at this ~ your name and contact number are on all sides of each piece of equipment.
And maybe a few additions to the tailgate, ha. :woot:
Have a good and productive season man !
:icefish:
-
Glad you got your gear back!!!

-

-
Good lesson learned for all of us.
-
Glad you got your stuff back!I just want to know how you got out of the truck and didn't notice it wasn't there! ;D

Heh....in 1997, I got home around midnight from ling fishing at Confederate. Unloaded my gear, opened the back of my extended cab pickup, and said, "c'mon boy!"....only to discover that my dog was not there.
I went upstairs and looked at my sleeping wife in bed, thought about waking her up....and decided no, I will head back to Confederate to look for the dog.
No sign of it. I slept in the cab until daylight. Then, I started to drive back to town....and found the dog at that first ranch house heading back to Helena, sleeping on the porch.
I called it, and it loaded up, and home we went. The rancher poked his head out of the door and said, "I was just about to call you. Real nice dog."
Yes, peppermint schnapps was involved. :(
-
I drove up to Peck once and set up. Got done and went back in and my truck was gone! Called the sheriff, checked the Walleye Cam tapes, screamed at Clint.... and then we found it where I left it in the upper parking lot.
Not really, but I bet it could happen within the next few years. ;D
-
Alright I'm ready!
Go ahead and call me an idiot. I know! \
