pwfisher sure it wasnt a brown trout? salmon arent listed to be in that lake. i know  on champlain, a lot of people confuse browns and salmons they can look exactly alike, the only real way to tell is the tails, spots, and mouth location

No I didn't keep it, it was only 12 inches and the length has to be 15 to keep them

Yeah why do the browns in champlain look like they have been swimming around in bleach?  I grew up fishing in rivers where browns and bows had color.

The browns on st.catherine are like that too!  boy is it a lake thing or just the strand that's being stocked?  I've seen some out of waterbury that were beautiful just like the fish outta the white river growing up.  I always thought browns were actually brown.

Rainbows or browns in big water tend to be silvery.  It's just a case of matching their environment.  Steelhead turn "steely" when they go out in big water, then get color after spending enough time in the river when they spawn.
I fish better Hungry.

Heard they canceled the derby last year due to poor conditions(not sure of the truth of the matter)......if I remember it was always the second sat in March.....I used to fish that derby religiously as it was fun when their was a local family running it.....then the local boyscouts took over and it sort of wasnt the same.  Heard the original family was doing it again.

Any intel on it would be great especially since I dont live up that way anymore.

Last year there weren't too many fish reported... We caught quite a few but they were all just under the tournament limit. Go figure! Conditions were nice though

old duke was the guy that did the derby. the fire department is doing it this year with a few changes. mostly for the youths. that is what it is all about; and that is what we pushed for almost 20 years. hope to see you there, will update with more info.

I'm guessing that the snow and slush is just as bad as it has been the last couple weeks. Headed back up, has the bite picked up at all?
