Looking for destination 26, 27, 28. Suggestions?
« on: Dec 23, 2013, 12:57 PM »
Have a few guys looking for a venture on said days. We have been hitting north park so will use that as last resort. Looking for new waters but would love some info on that area so we are not walking in blind. Thinking South Park. Antero, eleven mile or  spinney. Anyone have any other suggestions. We live up north but are willing to come spend our nickels in other communities.

Since I live 15 miles from 11 Mile I fish there more than anywhere else. First suggestion I have is to get a lake map that shows the contour, they are available at most sporting goods. Second
suggestion is to go to the marina on the north shore and get some up to date info. If you like to eat trout, the Mile has better tasting fish than Antero because of better water flow and less
weeds. Don't be afraid to move around. A move of twenty feet can be the difference between no fish and your limit.

Check NOAA for the weather. Winds of 20 mph and gusts higher are frequent. You can't be too mobile in a hub style shelter under such conditions if you use a shelter at all. All of South Park is
above 7,000' so no live fish for bait. Tight lines wherever you go and watch out for the wildlife when driving.

Summary:
Cannot ice fish Spinney at all, it is closed for the winter.
Antero is kickass, holds a ton of fish, mostly rainbows and cutbows with browns, also decent Kokanee population. It is 17' deep, but mostly 7-13'.

Eleven Mile is a fickle lady... Very deep in areas, also holds pike to monster size,  and larger Kokanees; trout get WAY bigger here, to 14#!  When you are getting skunked, though, it feels like the Saharan Desert.  Perch and smallmouth play an insignificant roll in your fishing.

"Fish-n-Map" are very very useful especially the new ones with GPS coordinates.  Good luck!
Fishin' is better with a Malty Beverage!
