I pimped my jet sled to get my ice fix. Pics
« on: Nov 24, 2009, 02:51 PM »
I got sick of looking for the usb cord for the cameras so I popped a couple pics with my phone. I'm not the handiest dude on the block but I was shocked at how good it worked out. It needs paint. I'm thinking pink and black. I'm going to eventually order some IS stickers to put a few on it. The pics aren't the greatest but I want to share with you guys because my girl and co-workers don't seem to impressed.

I'm guessing none of them have the hard water fever! Looks good and sturdy
Is there bracing under the front of the seat though? There should be.

I built it so the sled is resting on the 2x4's. There are no screws holding the sled to the wood so it's convertable. Each has it's own tow rope.I'll be using the frame with ski's for the long treks out then pop the sled out to bounce around jigging. I got around 8" ice clearance. My little, big brother put the sled and seat to the test. He weighs in at 375. I was shocked the sled held without collapsing in the middle.

I was thinking of adding at least some "L" brackets.  After my brother sat in it I decided not to. That held too. Feel free to offer up some positive criticism and or possible tweaks. I'll be farting around with it until we get some ice around here. I used hooks and bungies to attach the seat so I can easily take it off to put the grill or gear on it while I'm fishing. The seat is from my Radisson. I have two seats that fit on it so both my kids can sit for the ride out. The beauty of it...All it cost me was the price of the hardware. The wood and pvc was all free. And there's plenty more so I can do the jr too.

The two middle pvc pipes are just so I can pile it high with gear. I've got eye hooks all over it for bungying things down. I'm a big fan of the bungy.

I dont understand why you would put a sled up in skis ?

A sled works fine just by its self ?

I do like the rest of the addons !!!!

I walk when i'm ice fishing. I have two kids (5 and 8 ). Sometimes they don't feel like walking. With them and all my gear in the sled it gets pretty tough to pull. I'm fairly sure the spot we found last year was well over a mile walk out. The ski's will make a world of difference on the ice. Downhill ski's slide better than cheap plastic. At least it did on the grass. Hopefully it does on the ice too.

You know Ima work in some hot pink somewhere on it. Hot pink on black dude. I want to paint all the wood black. Then stencil prchslyr, my kiddo's names, and some cool fishing "flash" art in blazing hot pink. I might have to hit up my tat guy for some fish bone stencils.

I appreciate that a carpenter approves for sure. Those seats totally suck in the Radisson because they sit so low. I think they'll be decent up higher like that though.

I think you might fall over backwards if you lean back on it, but it is very lightweight.

Yeah, I won't be doing much lounging in it for sure. It will work when I'm pounding around jigging but I have an oversized camp chair for the porti.

I put PVC rod holders on my  little crate i have and if u cut a slit down the side of the PVC  your rods will stay in the holder a little better. just my two cents other than that looks nice man.
