Burbot Habitat
« on: Dec 24, 2007, 09:14 PM »
This is the first year I've gotten into fishing for these slimy devils. I'm sick of catching walleye and trout.

My question is what kind of habitat do they prefer: rocks, mud, weeds?

I know in the summer they like deep water, what kinds of depths do you fish in the winter though?

From my experiences they love the muddiest spot you can find in the lake..
I've caught burbot in 3 to 30 fow... They spawn under the ice and move to the shallows to spawn

Good luck they are a blat to fish and are great table matter

Like Whitefish Slayer said I found a muddy bottom is good ,but have caught them on gravel  bottom . Best luck we've had was in 15 to 30 feet of water. Also chum the bottom to get them in  . I use old hamburger ,fish guts from other catches . Once you get them in your on your way . Good luck
