February 15-17, 2008. Walker, MN. who all is going to fish this great event this year? you can bet i will be going again.
-
How do you guys fish for them out there? Do you use tip ups or jig rods, can you fish for them at night? Here in Maine we mostly fish for them at night with tip ups and they don't seem to grow as big as they do out in the midwest and west.
-
the most fish caught at pout fest are on rattle reels, with a few on tipups. since it is more of a get together than a fishing tourney (although some of us still try). as far as at night, we catch quite a few while sleeping, few better things to wake up to than a rattle reel going off. anyone else planning on attending, or does no one fish this area or fish in general???
-
I heard they taste good. I need to try one!
-
I usually try to get over for it! ;D One of these days Ill make it in the top 10.... I have a new spot to fish this year! :P
-

nice fish, what did it weigh? and man that is a big bait sticking out
-
I didnt weight her... but she sure tasted good last night :) I was fishing for pike with a big sucker in 8ft of water when I caught her! Right on a drop off. She had a 12" tulibee, two small perch, a bluegill, and a crawfish in her stomach! At least a couple pounds of just food!
-
must be the tulibee sticking out in the pic. only 8 feet of water eh, shallow for that size of pout.
-
I have never caught one that size shallow before either, the sucker is sticking out the mouth, it was a good 8" sucker. She was on the feed wagon! There was 35ft about 15' away though and deeper not that far. I was hoping for a nice big northern :P
-
No thats a fat slob of a fish
-
We are heading down to poutfest from Manitoba. It sounds like a lot of fun. Do you have any more advice? We will probably see you there.
-
Coming down from manitoba,eh! Hope you catch lots of Pout! Find a hump in 30ft surrounded by deep water without lots of others. Use glow jigs. Big minnows. The perch are big this year on Leech also... good to fish for during the day north of the activities near sand point. Dont party too much or you will miss the good fishing.
-
party too much... that never happens at poutfest ;D
-
i'll be there. it will be the grand debut' of my new fish house! can't wait
we went last year and tried to fish all night in my 4X6 portable, and didnt do well at all. that also was the inspiration for building my new "shanty."
i have been doing alot of research about cathing these guys and hopefully you will see me on the board!
see you there!
