Homemade shanty plans anyone
« on: Jan 20, 2011, 07:43 PM »
hey guys, just wonderin if anyone has had any luck building a decent homemade ice shanty, cuz i was looking to try my hand at that.. something that's relatively cheap, portable, and could be transported in a mid size Mazda 3 car.. some guys on youtube had some ideas, but their instructions aren't all that good, and my handyman skills could use some improvement

Have you considered purchasing a small portable shack??  For $300 or less, you can get a one man portable that sets up in 30 seconds.  Not sure what a hand made shack would cost, but purchasing one would give you something that was designed to fish from.  Would have to find one that would fit into your car.

I built a hand made portable years ago (4x6 feet).  Wood floor, with wood ends, with blue tarp that folded into itself.  It worked good, but was heavy and cost $120 to make.

Good luck with your shack if you can find plans or come up with something.

I have never spent more than $20 building a nice shack, usually old recycled wood, do you have any carpenter friends? It is pretty easy to build a 4' X 8'

The $150 shanty is the 3 man it is 6x6. I just checked their site. They have removed that model. My guess is they ran out of them. I know they raised the price from $140 to $150 because they were selling them too fast. Apparently they ran out anyway.
