« on: Dec 22, 2005, 11:14 AM »
For all the servicemen that are protecting our freedom, I would like to say thanks so much for your service to our country, and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year...
Send a message to our troops this Christmas http://www.thankasoldierweek.com/ for without them we might not be enjoying the outdoors...

I spent Christmas 1990 on the Saudi border with Iraq with the 101st Airborne and I'll never forget the best present I have ever recieved before or since.  The chaplin came by our position on Christmas Eve to do services for the guys.  He gave each one of us a brand new pair of Army green, wool socks.  There were about 25 of us there.  I felt bad for the chaplin, because as he was doing the service right there outside of our foxholes,  nobody was listening as we were all tearing our boots off to put on these new socks! I hope he understood that it was the first time any of us had put on a pair of clean (not washed in our helmets) pair of socks since August!  God Bless and protect all our soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen this Christmas and bring them good memories to bring home that might, in some small way, counter act the bad ones they'll carry forever!

A friend sent me this today and I thought it was timely to pass it on.....

A Different Kind of Christmas

I had no Christmas spirit when I breathed a weary sigh,
And looked across the table where the bills were piled too high.

The laundry wasn't finished and the car I had to fix,
My stocks were down another point, the Dolphins lost by six.

And so with only minutes till my son got home from school
I gave up on the drudgery and grabbed a wooden stool.

The burdens that I carried were about all I could take,
And so I flipped the TV on to catch a little break.

I came upon a desert scene in shades of tan and rust,
No snowflakes hung upon the wind, just clouds of swirling dust.

And where the reindeer should have stood before a laden sleigh,
Eight Hummers ran a column right behind an M1A.

A group of boys walked past the tank, not one was past his teens.
Their eyes were hard as polished flint, their faces drawn and lean.

They walked the street in armor with their rifles shouldered tight,
Their dearest wish for Christmas, just to have a silent night.

Other soldiers gathered, hunkered down against the wind,
To share a scrap of mail and dreams of going home again.

There wasn't much at all to put their lonely hearts at ease,
They had no Christmas turkey, just a pack of MREs.

They didn't have a garland or a stocking I could see,
They didn't need an ornament-- they lacked a Christmas Tree.

They didn't have a present even though it was tradition,
The only boxes I could see were labeled "ammunition."

I felt a little tug and found my son now by my side,
He asked me what it was I feared, and why it was I cried.

I swept him up into my arms and held him oh so near
And kissed him on the forehead as I whispered in his ear.

There's nothing wrong my little son, for safe we sleep tonight,
Our heroes stand on foreign land to give us all the right,

To worry on the things in life that mean nothing at all,
Instead of wondering if we will be the next one to fall.

He looked at me as children do and said it's always right,
To thank the ones who help us and perhaps that we should write.

And so we pushed aside the bills and sat to draft a note,
To thank the many far from home, and this is what we wrote:

God Bless You all and keep you safe, and speed your way back home.
Remember that we love you so, and that you are not alone.

The gift you give you share with all, a present every day,
You give the gift of liberty ...and that we can't repay.

So God Bless all our heroes standing watch out there today,

From all of us that they make safe here in the Good old USA.

Here is another......

It was 1987!   At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news video of  Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan  Administration.

There was Ollie in front of God and country getting  the third degree, but what he said was stunning!

He was being drilled  by a senator; "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security  system?"

Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."

The senator  continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't that just a  little excessive?"

"No, sir," continued Ollie.

"No? And why  not?" the senator asked.

"Because the lives of my family and I were  threatened, sir."

"Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.

"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.

"Terrorist? What  terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"

"His name is Osama bin  Laden, sir" Ollie replied.

At this point the senator tried to repeat  the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then probably  couldn't. A couple of people laughed at the attempt. Then the senator  continued. Why are you so afraid of this man?" the senator asked.

"Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of", Ollie  answered.

"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.

"Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin  team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."

The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was  shown of the clip.

By the way, that senator was  Al Gore!

Also:

Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta  blew up a bus in Israel in  1986. The Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo  agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release  so-called "political prisoners."

However, the Israelis would not  release any with blood on their hands, The American President at the time,  Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that  all prisoners be released.

Thus Mohammad Atta was  freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an airplane into Tower One of  the World Trade Center. This was reported by many of the American TV networks  at the time that the terrorists were first identified.
It was censored in the US  from all later reports.
