Hi everyone. I've been off this site for 2 years because I couldn't remember my password lol! I did the password change and never got an email back so on a whim I tried one of my million passwords and it worked. Anyway. I was introduced to ice fishing years ago at silver lake and over the past 4, I was able to get my own gear and get back into it. I'd like to fill a bucket with bluegill. If anyone would like to join me and possibly point me in the right direction again I would be very happy. When I go, it's usually on saturday from dark to dark. It takes me an hour and 20 to get there. Not opposed to pike either...
-
From what ive heard from a friend who fishes it the bluegill fishing isnt nearly what it used to be. I wish you good luck though and stay safe
-
Any advise on where to go? Coming from niagara falls area.
-
Sorry ive never fished the lake personally. Hopefully somebody who has wont mind pointing you in the right direction.
-
glad you got a password to work. lol. been there, done that.
use the search function on this website. i bet you could dig up some good info on silver.
-
Go to north end or the south end and you'll get what you want ;D
-
Go to north end or the south end and you'll get what you want ;D
Its not a big lake. Access is easier at the south end. Keep moving until you find a clear spot in the middle of the weeds. It will be a travel corridor, so to speak. Close the shanty up tight and sight fish all the bluegills you care to catch. Just remember to keep what you eat, and throw some back to grow up.
-
Did the wind break up the ice
-
Go to WeatherBug and put in Perry NY. You can get a shot of the lake. I think it's the north end. But its locked up. Saw a guy fishing out there today on the camera.
-
Camera is right next to the state launch. off silver lake marina. Going down Saturday! To bad my new auger and replacement tent for my hut won't be in for a week!
-
That's awesome! Good luck! I may be there Sunday or Monday depending on reports!
-
Could you tell me the best way to park and walk out? I'd be coming to silver lake from springville
-
any reports on how much snow fell?
-
Easiest way to get on lake south end state launch
-
so the camera from weatherbug on silver lake is at the south end boat launch looking north?
-
state park usually plowed good access , or mack's across the lake, either east or west lake rd you'll find one or the other on each
-
Saw the shanty my buddy and I got ready and went out. Only to turn around again. Had a long rope trekked out about 60 yard from public beach. Would have fished on a bucket with one person but wasn't safe for two people in a shanty. Ice was 3 or 4 inches of crappy white. Some spots had another 3 inches crap on top which my buddy fell through. Was kinda funny but not safe for more than one light person. Very little snow on top I'd wait another day at least. This weekend would probably be fine.
-
I am pretty sure the webcam is pointing south
-
I am pretty sure the webcam is pointing south
It's pointing north.
-
..Yehthat is what I ment.haha.. was silver still open in the middle.. I didn't get a chance to check today?
-
there is open water in the middle of the lake both ends refroze not sure how thick it is will check on fri. and post a report. 15 deg. in perry now.
-
Ok great.. thank you so much for the update!
-
There were huts out there on the silver lake cam. Not sure exactly where it points.
-
I have a bad feeling it's not gonna be till next weekend for me. Just doesn't seem safe.
-
Hoepfully they are a member and report back to us
-
hmmm...no reports on fish yet. Didn't fish the lake last year, but heard it wasn't a good year for numbers of fish. Maybe it will pick up this year
.
-
Well....you guys think tomorrow with the rain will screw it up for this weekend?
-
Depends on how much rain and how much snow is on the ice
-
I would wait another week to unsafe yet, not worthy of getting wet . The rain and warm temps today will make it to unsafe for this 200lbs man. Too soon....
-
I was fishing in front of Max's last Friday. Three inches of ice. The warm weather screwed that up bad. 45° right now. Probably have to wait and check ice on Wednesday.
-
Hey guys...Shot in the dark here. Anybody know Steve Bars? Or if he's on here? He got me into ice fishing years ago and I'd like to reconnect?
It's been years.
-
I take that as a no...LOL.
-
Fished silver on the north and south side today see info on reports and conditions. Pretty much just caught a bunch of dink perch, but have to rant.
I picked up 3 lb propane bottles and a 1/3 full mountain dew 2 liter, next to a bunch of perch left on the ice. A couple were almost keepers. This was off Standpipe Rd. These were probably the first people fishing there on the ice this year. Friggin dirt bags.
-
So not only did they litter but, they wasted fish. I don't understand it.
-
that is why you can only park at the end of road now. people got tired of picking all the garbage out of there lawns in the spring. I have also picked a bunch of garbage up off standpipe on the ice. know a person thats on the town board that is trying to get the parking closed at the end of the road if people keep trashing the place. if that happens there will be no way to get on the north end unless you know someone.
-
Fished all day today on east side near public beach. Caught 1 nice crappie, 1 pike and about 140 perch. Unfortunately 139 of the perch were 6". Ice is good. 5" to 7" anywhere I wandered.

Dragon, did you happen to look South from your location. I was wondering if you saw anyone down the lake on the East side near the county access, this would be midway down the lake.
Or any of you other fishermen that were on the South end, did you see anyone North on the East or West side in deep water over the mud flats out from Traber Rd?
Thanks in advance

-
Fished Saturday on the south end. Ended up with 2 northerns (24" and 23") and enough tiny perch to keep us entertained.
The morning was real slow but everything started to pick up around 1:30.
-
Any sign of bluegills??
-
Nothing for us. All I heard about was small perch.
-
Anybody out in deep water fishing on the East side near county access or the pines or off Traber road on the West side ?
Thanks in advance

Perch Chacer.Sorry for the delayed response. Didn't see anyone down that way on Saturday, but did see some guys closer to the north end on Sunday. Both east and west side.

just checked silver open from traber to silver grove and a open spt south of sportsman trl quarter in of snow can't believe the ends are good
-
Just checked Silver, open from Traber to Silver Grove and a open spot South of sportsman trl quarter in of snow can't believe the ends are good
The ends are holding but shore ice has melted back. If we get high winds from the South, the South end will drift toward the open center of the lake. Lets hope the cold weather this weekend locks the ends tight to the shore. I still want to get out to mid-lake deep water, maybe March.
-
you and I both there has to nice fish still. gettin costly goin to onieda every week don't think we will get to deep water I use to walk out of macs past traber alittle and get nice perch
-
you and I both there has to nice fish still. gettin costly goin to Oneida every week don't think we will get to deep water I use to walk out of macs past traber alittle and get nice perch
That was my route to deep water also until the mid lake access sites at Traber Rd or the County access on East side froze up. And yes if you know what to use there are some nice perch to be had in the deep water. Oneida has a lot of bad spots now covered with snow, use your spud if you go this weekend. I am going to wait. Maybe Chautauqua deep water next weekend.
-
Gonna try and get out from state launch tmrw. First time fishing silver. Where's best place to get pike shiners near the lake. Thanks
-
Akermans in Castile however I am not 100% sure that they are open on Sundays. I would definitely call first.

Thank you

Ok so I have been told that silver lake has walleyes has anyone ever caught any?
-
Ok so I have been told that silver lake has walleyes has anyone ever caught any?
I have caught a few in the past. Small (15"-16"). I've heard of others catching nice size ones from time to time. I haven't fished it regularly in several years.
-
Ok so I have been told that silver lake has walleyes has anyone ever caught any?
Silver has a lot of walleyes just hard to get em to bite bc of the abundance of bait. I catch a decent amount during the spring and summer. Seen a couple ice fishing but never targeted them. If u put in the time you can catch them. But just don't plan on limiting out. But the ones u catch are fat. My personal best on my boat is 27" 7 pounds. And I've seen bigger in this lake! good luck
-
Awesome thank you guys! Tight lines!!!!!!
-
Last spring I saw a nice school of eyes near a drop off about mid lake on the east side. Had my Aqua-vu in the water. I was fishin for gills and it looked like they were too. They were staged up just under the school of gills in 20 fow
-
Ok so I have been told that silver lake has walleyes has anyone ever caught any?
I have fished this lake since the 60's. We used to target the jumbo perch back in the 60's & 70's and didn't bother with the walleyes. There were no dink perch as there is today. Over the years the perch size began to get smaller. There was still nice size perch to be regularly had in 2000 -2002. I know the walleyes were stocked for years in this lake and they really took hold throughout the 80's up to the present. It was in the 80's that I saw a guy one day in the early morning going from hole to hole along the East side of the lake from the County access to the area we used to call the Pines and he was jerk jigging and then he would move to another hole. I walked over to talk to him and found out he was local and, he was fishing for walleyes and he showed me a couple nice ones in his bucket. He said he seriously fishes for the walleyes for the 1st few hours and catches a couple most times out. I took his advice and found walleye would hit in this lake if you actually targeted them. For years I caught walleye through the ice at Silver, but the last 10-12 years it is hard to catch Winter walleye because I think there is too many perch to be had. If you take the time you can catch a couple throughout the Winter, but not like we used to. Ask the DEC and they will tell you there is a huge population of walleye in this lake. They catch quit a few good walleyes in the Summer.
-
Hows the pike population in Silver Lake? Are they of any size? Im thinking of hittin the lake for some pike and if im lucky catch a walleye. Ive never caught a walleye thru the ice yet.
-
when silver was at the top of ny walleye stocking program i swear it helped the perch size one opening night about 12-15 years ago i limited out on walleye's all 5 were over 5lbs, biggest was 28" 8.25 lbs . now honeoye is or was recently on that list as top of the walleye stocking and their perch population has benefited in size i'm no biologist but seems like the waldo's kept perch in ck and there wasn't a stunted lake full and oh yeah one opening night i had a pike spool my reel and break my line i was longlining i turned hard left caught my line and hand over hand a pike that was well over 40" i'd dare say that pike would have broke 20+ pounds it was huge i got it to the boat and it broke off at the lure never seen another even close to that i think there's not enough predator's keeping things in ck
-
does anyone think silver will be good to fish on Monday
-
Can anyone seen on the cam today or anyone else on Silver give a ice report for shore and main ice. Thanks!
-
Couple huts on the South end when I drove by.
-
There's guys on the cam now.
-
Moving on up.
-
have to get out an try silver lake this season!
-
I might commit more to it this year to try and get some eyes and perch deep. Got fed up and only went twice in the last two seasons.
-
Silver was really bad for me last year. Only went once and caught about 10 small gills and 1 28" pike. Must have punched about 50 holes that day. Always wanted to try the deeper water for perch and eyes.
-
South end was wide open. Didn't drive to the north end.
-
FreeIng up then blowing back apart. Shouldn't be long
-
Lake looks like it has some ice over most of it. If this coming week doesn't get to warm it shouldn't be much more then a week or so for the gill guys but us perchmen need deep water and it won't be til mid Jan for that. No sense risking life for a mess of fish that can be caught all Winter long.

Keep on hauling

Just to let everyone know, starting the first of the year you will have to pay six dollars to ice fish from the state launch.
-
Will they take the Empire Pass for seniors?
-
State charging ice fisherman for access:
Over the years I have seen too many "false" posts. I would check with Parks and Recreation before blowing a gasket.
JTP
-
Anyone headed out for the afternoon?
-
any word this year yet
-
there will be a 6 dollar charge to park at the state launch at silver lake year round there is a place to pay and receive a ticket that goes in the window empire pass can be used. I was just down there it starts jan 1 2017 park will be checking cars through out the day and ticket any one without a pass in the window. one more way for the state to get more money. they will be doing this at all state park launches soon.
-
^^^^^ This really grinds my gears.
-
That works out to around $3 per keeper!
-
I don't lie eco. Talked to park police officer in person.
-
no open water or wet spots this morning so next week end for sure cant wait.
-
I gotta chime in here...all the taxes and cash we pay out in the 2nd worst state, all the money we pay compared to others, and we have to pay $6 dollars everyday we fish. And on waters we pay for. Waters that our tax dollars and license fees for to. And yes, hunters and fisherman oay for most of it. On top of all that, we pay that much to park. At a launch that our money goes to anyway. That's nice. I'm out when I retire.....Won't have to re-up my pistol permit every 5 either in the state I'm going too.
-
If I move it'll be farther north so I can extend my ice season!
-
what's the latest on ice condtions?
-
Can you park at golf coarse? haven't ice fished silver in few years

Just checked the camera. There's a guy fishing out there right now.
-
Fished the south end today. Only a few perch in about 30 fow. Set up tip ups for some pike but no takers. Ice wasnt as thick as I would have wanted but it held up pretty well. I was there from 7am till about 12:30pm.
-
Thanks for the info I was going to go to Chautauqua lake but sounds like the ice isn't in very good shape there guess I am off to silver

Wheres the best shop to get pike bait around Silver?
-
Higgins bait on 3834 west lake rd five min from the state park we got bait there last he opens at am higginsfamilybait.com BIGFISH http://higginsfamilybait.com/
-
Holy cow I just checked their prices and it's super expensive, the bait store in wayland sells you bait by the pound or half pound and it's only $16 for a whole pound of minnows and they're getting $9/dozen at that place. You get 3-5 dozen per pound of shiners depending on size
-
20+ people out there this morning. Was told 4 1/2 inches of ice yesterday and temp was 0 degrees last night so probably closer to 6 in now.
-
it dont make ice that fast
-
I'd be surprised if there was more that 4 1/2" anywhere I drilled today
-
Going to try and get out tomorrow
-
Fished off of the state launch from 8-130 today. Caught a 100+ perch 99% dinks and mids in 12-14 foe.No luck on the tip ups.
-
Has anyone seen perch with black spots all over them? I caught one today and was curious what it was you can actually feel these spots kind like sand almost. I'll post a pic when I figure that out

These are the black spots I was referring to.
-
I would assume some sort of parasite..
-
Imagine how amazing the perch fishing would be on Silver if they had some decent size to them
-
that perch has grubs associated with snails normally happens with lakes that are super weedy.
-
yep grubs
-
It's going to be another long slow ice season on the south end for Bluegills again this year guys. Weeds were poor heading into late fall/early winter, and water clarity was not the best. Coupled with the ultra low water levels this past open water season it pushed them out to deep water round about the middle of Sept. The gills will be out deep most of the winter feasting on bloodworms, and will stay there until spring. Some one might luck into them a day or two here and there on the south end on a couple select spots, but for the most part it's going to be tough for the average Joe. I am not even getting the stuff out of the barn this year, unless a few trusted buddies tell me otherwise.
-
Its not grubs it parasites. Theres a golf course that borders the lake that uses mass amounts of fertilizers
. CHEMICALS= PARASITES not grubs
-
The fish has "black spot" disease, also commonly called black grub. They are digenetic trematode parasites that burrow into the skin and flesh of fish. Needs three separate hosts to complete life cycle; fish, fish eating birds and snails. Can be found anywhere where all three hosts occur.
-

What is that black dots?
-
Research ny dec Web page. There's a write up on diseases and parasites with fish. They give you a list of what can be eaten and what you can't. They also have "Unknown" sections. I caught a nice pike there about 2 years ago. After filleting him all the grubs/worms started popping out of the fillet. I didn't want to waste the fish so I did my research, pulled off as much as I could and then soaked it in milk and salt (if I remember correctly). Anyway, after checking and recheck ingredients and being fairly positive I had removed them all.....I ate it. I will not be doing that again no matter what the Dec says. I just didn't want to waste it.
-
If you filled the fish that have the black dots you will find the tiny grub in the meat. Just take the end of a filled knife and cut them out.
-
Yes. At the time, after seeing the grubs I looked at the skin and only found a couple dots. Very unnoticeable. But still a ton of grubs. He wasn't as bad as that perch on the outside.
-

Yeah ok. The same guy will tell you to make snow cones out of the blue green algie to and eat the parasite worm while taking tequilla shots. Dont take chances with your health.
-
I'm going pike fishing tomorrow on the north end. It's sad to see what the lake has become. I can remember how good the ice fishing was for gills and perch. Its been bad going on six or seven years now. I have been told that the DEC stocked walleye last fall with more to come this fall. If true the eyes should clean up a lot of the dinky perch. Give them room to grow.
-
That fish has little color and looks unhealthy. Is the water really stained there. Most perch I get are from lake Ontario and are very colorful.
-
The Amish are on silver raping it of its pike again. Bought all shiners up from Ackermans.
-
I fished silver for about 20 some years and did very well until ice shanty came along. It was a good idea until 100's of people found out that silver had jumbo perch. Since the huge rush of people the lake was raped of its jumbo perch. I do not think ice shanty is bad but once the word gets out about a small lake fishing well it's all over. Loon,Cuba, and silver fell to ice shanty. Just my opinion. Give it some time as it takes about 10 to 12 years for perch to get to jumbo size.
-
I fished Silver Lake 40 years ago and it was full of dink perch long before ice shanty came along. At that time you could catch buckets of Jumbo perch in Conesus but then that population crashed and that was long before ice shanty. The Conesus perch were wiped out by a combination of overfishing and the introduction of alewives which totally disrupted the ecology of the lake. The real problem is Cuba, Silver and Loon are typically the first lakes to freeze and are getting hammered during these warm winters when nothing else freezes. Also modern technology like flashers, cameras, hi tech tackle etc make it a lot easier to catch a lot more fish so that also impacts small lakes more than before.
-
I'd be willing to bet that all of the above reasons contribute to the decline. I would also look at the age of the lake; it's sediment level; recent algae bloom formation; as well as any amount of run off from the surrounding agricultural fields. The lake is filling in with sediment and weed growth explodes within its depth range. It dies and rots which in turn uses oxygen. To compound this, the lake has very little in-flow. 12-15 feet down is the thermocline during the summer and below that there is no oxygen. It is a complete dead zone below that. This leaves little room for the fish to roam and induces stress on them thus inhibiting their growth cycle during the summer. Winter comes and the water flips. The lake's bottom is temporarily oxygenated, that's where the perch eat the blood worms, but this is burned up by the non-decomposed sediment and we are back to square one. A good solution would be VERY VERY large bubblers all over the lake during the spring, summer and fall. Dredging is going to remove the un-decomposed material but not the root cause, but it will help. The lake needs an input of oxygen. Good luck Silver Lake Assn. Open your wallet and say AHH... I don't own a cottage there but if they ever do something about it and need a hand I'd be more than willing to help. I can run a shovel or drive a wheel barrow. It's a really nice lake to ice fish and I'd hate to see it decline further.

This is what I know. The perch in Silver lake feed on blood worms and other small aquatic creators which in turn feed on the zoo plankton in this lake. I was told by a worker from the Town of Perry when they pull the screens at the water intake for cleaning they are infested with zebra mussels. The main diet of the zebra mussel is zoo plankton. Years back it was not unusual to see hundreds of these tiny zoo plankton creators swimming in your hole when ice fishing, today you see hardly any. Without zoo plankton, which is being devastate by the zebra mussels, you don't have enough feed for the perch bait in this lake. If you don't have a sufficient balance of bait to perch you won't have large fish. You can thank the zebra mussels for helping to contributing to the decline of the large size perch in this lake. The DEC agrees the zebra mussels are not helping.
-
What can be done about it?
-
What can be done about it?
This is not the only lake zebra mussels have interfere with. Once in a lake they are there to stay. Fishermen years back should have taken the warning more seriously when the DEC said boats should be washed in between docking from one lake to the other and billage water should not be dumped into other waters. DEC has a list of NY lakes with zebra mussels and you would be surprised how many. I talked to the DEC bioglist for over an hour last summer about this small perch issue.
Keep on hauling

Does anyone know if the ice survived the rain and warm weather?
-
there dropping the lake level again so watch the shore ice. wish they would leave it alone. it already lower than normal.
-
How do they do that? It seems lower then it usually is?
-
There is a dam on the outlet on Federal St. in Perry. They can raise and lower the gates to adjust the lake level.Looks pretty much like the dam next to Teds in Lakeville.

Ya know I have fished Silver since the early 60's and never knew there was a dam on the outlet in Perry. See, you're never too old to learn things, so always listen and learn before you speak.

any thoughts on ice thickness will it be safe tom.

It will not be safe.

ok thanks might have to drive lol

Looks like someone took a test walk out onto the ice:
http://silverlakeassociation-wny.org/lake-cam/
Or it's a pressure crack...
-
That's a crack leaking water.
-
Hopefully moving in the right direction though.
-
Hello all.i am wondering what the ice might be like this weekend if any
-
There's a guy on the ice now...see on the cam...he's pretty far out too
http://silverlakeassociation-wny.org/lake-cam/
-
Awsome thanks haven't been out this year yet ..heard people were on the ice before the warm up
Wonder how thick it is..?
-
I called macks but they didn't know..
-
Thank you for the camera info!!
-
I would bet on solid ice by the weekend. I hit Silver a few times this year in search of walleye. I caught tons of small perch and a short walleye. I would like to prod on the chances of a legal eye there
-
Bump it up for BS and report info.
-
Used to do very well here but last few years have been very tough, anyone still doing well with gills in recent years?
-

Gills seem to be non existent. Only reason i set up shallow anymore is for the pike. Poor weed growth again this year i imagine is the problem. Fish must be sitting deeper over some better weeds.
-
I see there are a lot of fishermen on Silver at the South end.
1.) Is the ice you guys are on new ice (black or clear)or re-froze old ice (white)?
2.) How many inches?
3.) Is it hard ice or soft?
4.) Can you see anyone off of Traber Rd down the lake on the West side or just down at mid lake?
Thanks ahead of time for the info.
-
1) looks refroze to me
2)3-4.5 inches
3) ice seemed hard
4) not to sure if anyone was out on Trabber
Hope this helps!

Any perch to be had
-
Also looking for a bait shop macks has no minnows!?!
Silver has some nice size walleyes as you can see from the ones caught in the spring and summer, but it is not noted to be an active walleye lake in the Winter. I have caught a few early in the morning and late in the afternoon over the years, but you have to be constantly on the move and know the lake bottom to catch that one or two fish for the day. Pike were plentiful for many years but they have decreased in numbers. A lot of small perch and mid-size gills can be caught most anytime.
-
just got back from the lake i had my best night limited out on the papermouths all though some of my other buddys didnt do that well!!!
-
Nice job fish. Wish I could have made it.
-
Nice job!!! I've been reluctant to waltz out on that body of water in recent years, but it's good to hear there's some success occurring.
-
Pulled out a 32 inch sharp tooth there today!
-
Fished it today as well. Got into some nice gills out of a buds summer place.
Stand by hot spot for big gills came through again!! Might be done til open

-

-
Fished the afternoon in 10-17fow yesterday off the state park launch ice was 2" of white and 2-2.5" clear
Nothing but dink perch

Thanks, will go out with care Wednesday.
Were you able to get out today?....ill be there tomorrow, and wondered how the ice is holding up?
-
Any best guesses on chance of ice holding up into Sunday with the temps spiking on Sat? Was hoping for one last silver hurrah but I might just head north if it won't be worth the drive.
-
There was a couple inches of slush on top today with a couple inch of snow on that. I moved alot and found no better than 3-4 clear with inch of white top. Ice may make to sunday but it's going to turn to a sloppy mess.
-
This Silver Lake ice fishing site has good information each year for the newbies before they can access the Silver Lake reports and conditions thread, so lets keep it active.
-
Perch chacer....i got into ice fishing on silver. You're right. It's a good place to start and learn. The guys on silver have always been helpful on this site and taught me a lot.

Did you get into any of the crappies out of Silver last winter?
-
Actually I didn't hit silver last year. You do any good there?
-
Took a ride up to silver lake today 4-5 huts out fishing walked out to see how deep the ice was 3"-5" with 4" of snow on top think I may try it in the morning any one had any luck there? Last few years has been hit and miss
-
Last year the last 2 weeks of the season, which unfortunately ended president’s day weekend, the panfish and pike fishing was hot at the south end. Hoping this year is just as good. Although going to be harder to find bait in the area with Higgins closed.
-
Fished silver today 3-4" of ice caught lots of nice perch nothing else not sure where all the gills are
-
What end did fish?
-
Heard some mixed reports from silver last few days...but a few buds put some time in marking key areas on the gps this summer and their hard work is paying off now.
-
So... I used to get bait from Higgins. They closed. Mack’s doesn’t sell bait. Does anyone know if Ackerman’s is still selling bait? If not there will be no bait shop within 30 minutes of silver lake. That’s crazy.
-
There was someone selling bait from home on west lake road across from golf corse all summer don't see why they would stop now let me know
-
Closest bait I know of is teds in Conesus... not sure if Ackerman’s is or not and the hours their suck if you want to get out first light
-
Can you put up Teds at Conesus address & phone number?
-
State launch good?
-
.
State launch good?
There have Been huts out there fishing the last couple of days. I do not personally know ice conditions or amount of snow on ice.
-

That was Higgins.
-
Chat-fish: My wife and I just had lunch at Macks a few weekends ago and she (owner) was certain they'd be selling bait/wax-worms/mousy grubs, so I'll give a call there and ask about it, and report back.
-
State launch good?
I was there this morning. Ice is not as good as I hoped it would be. Out at the weedline I drilled through 2" of crust, into 2" of slush then about 4" of ice that only consisted of about 1 1/2" of clear ice. Out past the weedline that crust disappears on the surface and it is 4" of slush under the light coating of snow with about the same ice under that as it is shallower. For what it's worth, the bite matched the ice conditions lol
-
Has anyone been out in the deeper water for perch
-
There is supposed to be some eyes in silver. Has anyone ever targeted them or got em as bycatch?

I appreciate the reply. So it's about like Conesus lake. The walleye in there are huge

There is a state launch on the Southwest corner that is plowed regularly. Can catch perch, gills, a few crappies and pike with the right bait. On the Southeast corner there is a access point that has a restaurant called Mack's.

I'm new to this site, was wondering how many parents take their kids 12 and under. Looking for tips on keeping them interested.

My kids are no longer terribly interested in hunting and fishing, but when they were young, they actually did enjoy going ice fishing. I'd just encourage you to let them play and don't force them to fish. If they're sliding on the ice, building forts or snowmen, sneaking up on deer, whatever, allow it. As long as they're out there with you, they will show interest when you hook and land a fish and on the good days I never had trouble keeping them interested in the fishing.
-
I loved the excitement of chasing tip up flags when my dad would take me out as a kid. Still do.
-
Snacks and hot chocolate are a key way to keep them going. I think if I drilled 2 holes for each of them and gave them a scoop strapped to their wrists they would clean the slush from one hole to the other all day long.
They also like fishing with something heavy that they can reel up and down when the want to get into it a bit.
-
My 12 and 8 year old daughters love ice fishing...make it an adventure...lots of snacks and keep em warm! Tent and heater a must..I bring the pop up when they come..I have them use light rods with swedish pimples with a single hook tipped with a minnow head or waxie/Mousie...heavy enuogh for them to feel bottom. Last year they each got floating suits..safety first

Went to Silver Lake this morning. They got about a foot of snow. There are brownish looking areas in the snow all over the lake which are wet spots and slush. Where I test walked it seems like a full layer of slush. Stopped at the North end, Perry Town Park, Wyoming County access on the East Side - mid lake, Mack's and the state launch. All have slush over the existing ice. I have done the horrible slush walk and drag before but not today and went back home. PS the Wyoming County access must not be county land anymore, there are 3 real estate sold sign at the road.

I don't think it was ever county land, but private land with access noted by the Wyoming County Wildlife Federation. I saw those signs last week too. That access was not for the meek.

I know, it was a nasty drag coming off, all up hill and with a lot of snow it was brutal, but the deep water perch were worth it. Will come in from Traber Rd on the West side and cross the lake if the ice ever gets good and there is little snow. A lot to hope for.
-
Will be going to Silver early this Sat. and do the around the lake check and then pick the best deep water sport for some perch. Anyone have a present report on ice conditions other then the South end. I was there last Sat. but there was a lot of slush.
-
On Monday there was 8-9 inches of ice (6 clear) over deep water in north end.
-

Fishin'Blues, Thanks for the report, must be the slush froze. It's a go for me deep water this Sat.
-
Made it to Silver Sat. as I said I would. There were guys out at South End, North End, Traber Rd, Perry Town Park, the Golf Club and the East side off the old County access, basicly all over the lake. The two deep water areas I fished today had 16" of ice measured not guessed. Shore ice at both areas was wet with a little slush for 25 to 30 yds. but safe. No machines on the lake but could well support them.
-
Can't believe with as many guys that were out Saturday and today there was only one post on the Silver lake reports and conditions thread and none on this thread. Why no reports?
-
just wondering. perch chacer, were you the gentleman that stopped and talked to me and my buddy on your way off the lake Sunday.
-
My family has a cottage there we have fished many times and have never had much luck off traber or the south end looking for pike any suggestions please

The pike quantities have dropped off consideriby in the last few years. The ones that can be caught can be taken all along the East shore. Straight across the lake from Traber Rd is a good spot. I have caught pike in that area on flags set-up 100-200 ft off shore. The Northwest corner and the South end off Mack's and the state launch are also pike areas. Good luck.

just wondering. perch chacer, were you the gentleman that stopped and talked to me and my buddy on your way off the lake Sunday.
Could have been, I was with another person and I stopped and talked to two guys that had stopped to fish an existing hole. I asked how they did and told them what I had caught. That was around 5:30 pm.
We need snow on the shore now to protect the shore ice. Bare ground gets warm from the sun and warms the shore water which melts the shore ice.
-
stopped at state launch at 1 pm on way home today
little water on ice and looked super slick
ice appeard fine although i didnt check it
there were 6 guys headed out for afternoon
temp was dropped by then and no rain just light snow at that point
-
Hey guys, my dad just got me some tip ups down from the raftors and was wondering if someone could give me tips on hooks, bait, line and extra tips. How far do u keep the minnows down and how do u hook them?

Try this. Lots of good information

Hey guys, my dad just got me some tip ups down from the raftors and was wondering if someone could give me tips on hooks, bait, line and extra tips. How far do u keep the minnows down and how do u hook them?
For pike at Silver I spool the tip up with 25lb ice braid with about a 3’ fluorocarbon leader. 12-15lb fluoro. On the end put a quick strike rig. The rig consists of a 8” wire leader with a #6 or #4 single treble hook. I have had good luck with gold shiners but alot of peeps use suckers. Hook them in the back right behind the dorsal fin. Add a split shot just above the wire leader to keep the shiner from swimming too high/fast. I fish mostly the south end. Good to be in the weeds which disappear deeper than about 12’ of water. Don’t be afraid to stay shallow (less than 10’). Position the shiner so it is only a few feet below the ice. Pike cruise atop the weeds. Hope this helps. Good luck!
-
Don't be afraid to try the deep water drop-off's along the East shore. I have caught a lot of pike on tip-ups along the East shore about 100' to 150' out. The water gets deep rather quickly, but the pike cruise the top of the drop in front of the shore weeds.

Handfull of 8-9 inch perch couple 10s. Bigger ones on raps. Couple crappie from same holes. Fun day on the ice.

Goes to figure why they hit jigging raps, three of the larger perch I cleaned Sunday had 1" long rock bass in them. That is why when I changed to perch eyes in the afternoon I started catching the 9" perch. I saved some eyes and will start with them first thing the next time out and hopefully get more keepers.

Today was my second day out on my own and I've been learning a lot thanks to the help of those on this forum. I really appreciate help and advice, and as an experienced open water and fly fisherman, it's a little different to be on this side of the learning curve. I just want to say thanks, particularly to Perch Chacer for helping me to learn the ropes. It made my day a lot better than it would have been otherwise.
Got 7 perch today about 9 inches on average. Caught one dink and missed double the amount I landed or more. The biggest lesson I learned today was that setting the hook is a lot different than any other type of fishing and the takes are extremely subtle. Anyhow, my 4 kids loved the fish fry we had. My oldest son is about the pickiest eater you'll ever meet and he asked for seconds.

You can get bait at Rob's Sunoco Gas Station on Main Street (Rt 39) Castile, NY they have a tackle / bait shop in the rear. They have spikes, mousees, pike bait - shinners and fat heads minnows. 1-585-493-2810. Open at 7am. Where to park will determine what you want the minnows for. The South end has gills, perch and pike and there is a State launch with a large parking lot and a Kiosk for $6 on Southwest corner. Mack's restaurant parking is free on Southeast corner. You can also reach deep water by walking straight down the lake from either of these access points.

Great information!! We are going to target the perch
-
If you want to catch bigger fish then go too conesus or honeyoe lakes. Silver gave up the ghost a long time ago.
-
Shore ice still OK at north end? Never fished that end and want to give it try today. Thanks in advance.
-
Shore ice at the north end was fine yesterday. Lots of water on the surface. But still plenty of ice. Move around till you find a hot pod of perch and it’s great action for 10-15 minutes.
-
It was a toss up between case or silver. Fished case last Sunday. Lots of action but all dinks.
-
Fished Silver today from 8am-5:30pm. The shore ice was still good and solid with no edge water showing. Ice where I fished was measured at 12" a few inches less then last Sat. The surface got a little soft today with the 40's temp, but when I left the temp had dropped and the surface was re-freezing.
The bite was tough today, left the lake with (15) 8-9" perch and caught at least another 15 shorts along with some short crappies. Bigger perch are nice, but I'll take 8-9" perch any day. There will be 9-10" perch here next year. Got to fish for these perch with finesse, if you don't they are far and few between.

good to hear, I've only ever got dinks there

Got to keep this thread going for the new guys before they can open the reports thread.
Fished Sat. out in the deep wateer from 8:00 to 5:00, started in 30 FOW but worked around till I found the deeper area. Left the lake with 20, 8-9" perch, and threw back at least that many shorts. Took a while to figure out what jig, color and bait they wanted. Caught most on a white "Genz" bug with a constant jig movement and either mousses or perch eyes. The bite was so light it just moved the spring bobber and you had to concentrate or you didn't even know they hit. My LC graph showed schools of fish going through on and off all day. Ice was measured at 12" with only a few patched of snow on top. Shore ice was snow covered and solid. Wind was strong at times.
-
35 keepers Sunday 180 in 4 times out some over 10 inch
-
Looking to fish into the evening at Silver this Saturday - from everything I found on the DEC site it looks like the state launch is open until 11PM. Has anyone had any troubles parking there after dark?
-
In my experience most people are usually cleared out of there by dark or slightly after. Not sure what the rules are.
-

No picnics or rowdy parties after 11. Fishing access, pay $6, you'll be good. Call the office at Letchworth for clarification or spend your $6 at Mack's on a burger/coffee and park there for free. Access the same ice.
-
I fish silver regularly, I don't fish the state launch much but I have many times in the past. When did they start charging during ice season? Are we paying an attendant?
-
Never seen anyone there .its a kiosk .pay and get a pass

Pay and get a pass or they will give you a ticket

Hang the day pass the machine gives you in your window. It's been two years now. They plow daily and the bathrooms are heated, your $6 at work. Must be our tax dollars go else where.

PLEASE NOTE: Saturday I went down to Standpipe Rd but found the limited parking full. The problem I saw was there were a couple of trucks parked straight in on the right side of the dead end road, just pass the orange fence. That vacant area is a lawn for the cottages across the road. Parking on lawns happened a few years ago that is why there is a orange fence up at the intersection. The vacant space to the right down the dead end road is not a parking area. We will lose all parking on Standpipe Rd if this erratic parking keeps up. It may not be Ice Shanty fishermen but I wanted to get the word out. Respect the cottage owners property. Thanks guys.
-
Now with the snow gone and the ground softening up please be careful where you park and respect all access points. At the end of Standpipe Rd the vacant area just past the orange fence is not a parking area, it is a lawn for the cottages across the road. We will lose all parking on Standpipe Rd if erratic parking keeps up. It may not be Ice Shanty fishermen but I wanted to get the word out. Respect the cottage owners property. Thanks guys.

Hope to get out on silver Monday. Got hour and half drive. If anyone knows conditions please let me know. Fished it a few years ago and getting back into ice fishing. Heard it had 14 inches of ice so hope that holds up.
-
Went out of the Golf Course on West Side today. Shore ice and main ice is solid but slick and all the drain holes from mid week are froze solid and do not spud through. Main ice is still a good 14". It was freezing all day from 7:30 until we left at dark. The morning holes we used were iced over with a 1/4" when we came back to them at 3:00. We started on the West side then walked across the lake to the 35 FOW out from Perry Beach, then walked down off Standpipe Rd to the 30 FOW and the ice conditions were the same all over. Bite was slow today with only a few perch taken. Will be excellent ice conditions tomorrow morning at the North end. One danger area to avoid is the creek that enters the lake to the right side of the Golf Course ramp. Make a big swing out into the lake if you are going to head south.
-
Headed out in the morning. Hope conditions will be good. Let you know if ice is good. Let me know if not
-
Good Luck! Got out there two weeks ago and only caught three keepers.
-
I just got back from checking and walking on Silver Lake ice at 3:30 pm.
1) State Launch SW corner - one 6 ft wide area still has ice to the shore and easy to get on. I walked out 25 yds and cut a hole 8 " ice, 50 yds out still 8".
2.) Traber Rd. - Shore ice along the concrete wall is melted 2 feet away and can not access there.
3.) Golf Course - The access area still has ice to the shore all long the pier and easy to get on. I walked out 25 yds and cut a hole 8 " ice, 50 yds out 7". Very important: stay away from the creek on the right side of the pier.
4.) Standpipe Rd. - Just North of the large gray house, the snowmobile access has melted out about 2 feet, but one good step and I was on solid ice. You guys may want a plank at this area. Directly out from Standpipe Rd at the base of the steep hill, there is still ice to the shore and easy to get on. Stay away from the drain pipe to the right side. I walked out 25 yds and cut a hole 9 " ice, 50 yds out still 9". At this access area there are a few large cracks that are still locked together for now. Talked 3 guys coming back from the far Northwest corner for gills. They said gill bite was slow and not worth it today.
5.) Perry Public Beach - Shore ice along the concrete wall is melted away about 6", but I was able to get onto the ice easy. I walked out 25 yds and cut a hole 9 " ice, 50 yds out still 9". At this access area there are also a few cracks that are still locked together for now.
6.) I forgot about Macks but I would assume it to be the same.
No snow on the ice and very little slush, but extremely slippery. You will be able to see any bad areas so stay alert.
Temp at the lake was 42F , and on my way home it started to rain when I went through Java. Tonight will be around freezing but not much ice making.
This is a report only from 3:30 today with 42F temp and you make your own decision. NO ICE IS SAFE ALWAYS USE CAUTION

Went out of Perry Public Beach from 7:30am - 5:00pm. The shore ice cracks that were locked together yesterday were open today a few inches. The shore ice sections floating free were large enough to support a persons weight when crossing to get to the main ice. When coming back in the shore cracks were opened about 6" but ice sections still supported a persons weight and easily crossed to get to the shore. Main ice was 7" at the end of the day and the top 1" was getting soft. There were a few large man eater holes out there so we had to stay alert. The perch bite was the best so far this season, two of us together kept (42) 8-9" perch and threw back a doz or so smaller ones. One other hut came out near us in the afternoon and the father and son kept 12 perch. I have tried and tried to post the shore ice and perch pictures taken with an IPhone but no luck. I can't get the photos off the IPhone and into my computer. I stopped at Standpipe Rd on my way home and there were still 5 vehicles there and guys were still out. Shore ice there was the same as posted above, loose and large floating sections. Extreme caution tomorrow if you go out.
-
Made a spur of the moment decision to go to Silver when my buddy called at 12:00 noon. Shore ice at Perry Public Beach and Standpipe was solid with 6" of slush on top for the 1st 50 ft. out. Spud did not go through with 3 heavy whacks. The main ice was 10" thick (5" dark and 5" white but solid) with 2-3" of snow on top. There were quit a few huts out of Standpipe, some fishing the East side and the rest over at the Northwest corner. 3 huts out of Perry Public Beach along with us. We fished from 1 to 6:30 pm and the two of us kept (20) 8-9" perch and through back another doz. shorts. Still further South across from Silver Grove there were 2 more huts. No one any further South then that. This is only a report, you make the decision and if you go use caution.

Got out with Frankie bags afterwork today. Great to be on the ice again. Entered at public beach area. Solid from the first step to the last. Met a nice guy coming off the lake when we entered. He had 15 decent perch in his bucket, happy as good be. He had a bucket a spud and two rods. That’s it. Love how people can make it work running light gear like that. Ice was 4 inches clear and about 4 white everywhere we popped holes. Slow bite for us. Kept 3 perch at 9 inches and caught 10 crappie but no keepers. This weekend should be solid but that is just my opinion based on the holes we popped today. We bumped the spud all the way out just to be safe. Enjoy a late season bonus and good luck finding some keepers. First time i have fished Silver, tuff lake being that its seems lke its 30 to 35 feet everywhere.
-
Yes, mostly 30-35’. Except shallow north and south ends which can be a panfish and pike bonanza when the ice is good.
-
Went out of Perry Public Beach today Sat, was 16 degrees when we arrived at the lake at 7:30 am and minor ice formed on holes all day. Shore ice was froze solid and main ice was still 10" thick (5'' of blk with 5" of wht with 1-2" of snow on top. The snow is protecting the ice from thawing. No ice has been lost since last Sat. Fished 32 FOW and kept 56 perch 8-10" between me and my buddy. 3 of them were over 10". Threw back at least 30 more shorts under 8". Perch eyes were the trick today. Tomorrow and Mon will be no problem getting out and I do not think the upper 40's and 50's on Tues, Wed and Thurs will destroy what ice there is now.

Great catch perch chaser. Some nice perch in that pile. Lots of people out today? Beautiful day for it!!

Great catch perch chaser. Some nice perch in that pile. Lots of people out today? Beautiful day for it!!
Ya, great day out but I got a little sun burn on the face. I fished with my hut 1/2 open all day, too nice to have it flip closed. To answer your above question about lake depth: This lake is a quick drop off to 32-35 FOW all along the East side and more qradual on the West side, shallow both ends. There is a 40 ' hole just South of the Golf Course on the West side. No structure on the bottom. The complete lake is a mud bottom flat and the perch feed on blood worms burrowed in the mud. Bigger perch hang out in the deep water as I found today in 32 FOW. Good luck if you go again.
-
i fished friday and had no problem getting a limit of perch
most that i kept were 8.5 -10 inches
did mix some in in 11 range
went back sat till 10;30 and kept 21 more around same size
char tungsten jig and spikes for me
friday afternoon was crazy i had 5 feet of fish on my vex and when my jig got 10 feet from bottom they would come up to meet it
also caught a s//t ton of small crappie
as perch chaser said today and tomorrow should be ok but after that i think ice is leaving
just an opinion

i have pics on my phone ,but no idea how to get them on here
Download the pic's from your phone to your computer in My PC and in any folder that you store your pic's in or make a folder named pictures. Once you have them in your computer it is simple. Go and make your post on Ice Shanty as you usually do and and when you want to add a pic go to the bottom of the post window click on "add image to post" when the post image window opens click on add images and the MY PC menu
in your computer will open. Scroll to the folder where your pic's are and click on the picture you want to add and then click on open at the bottom of the window. Picture now added to the post. Did you get out today? I am coming to Silver tomorrow. Good luck
-

Went out of Perry Public Beach today Tues, was 34 degrees when we arrived at the lake at 7:30 am and 37 degrees when we left.
Shore ice was still good to the shore and main ice was still 10" thick (5'' of blk with 5" of wht) but snow on top was spotty.
Fished 32 FOW only kept 20 perch 8-9" between me and my brother, a little smaller then Sat.
The bite was finicky, had only a few marks of fish under us most of the morning but a solid 3' of fish under us in the afternoon but not many takers. Must have been the cold front and rain.
Rained from 11 - 4pm but did not hurt the ice, only a few puddles.
Three vehicles also at Standpipe Rd and guys out on the ice.
Good luck and stay safe if you go.
-
thanks for report perch chaser im hoping to get done working early tomorrow and go out in afternoon ill report if i do ,maybe even post another pic if i can get them

You didn't happen to look at the shore ice at the Perry Public Beach did ya? I carry a 2X10 10ft long this time of the year, would that span the open shore water you had to wade through today?
-
yea it would where i was at ,it was only two or 3 steps in broken ice to get on to get on ice,if ya go ,good luck like i said its getting soft
-
Thanks for info. Can't get out til Sat so I'll take a drive with my partner and see what it looks like then.
The South end has opened up quit a bet and with the ice not locked to the shore anymore their is a chance the main ice sheet may drift to the South and open the North and East shore more.
Definitely with a North or East wind the main ice will move away from the East shore with the South end open.
-
dont look good pc been pouring here not far from lake

If your not far from the lake maybe you can swing by after work on Friday and check Perry Public Beach and Standpipe shore ice and post. Let us know if a plank would work. No sense driving 35 miles one way on Sat if shore ice is really shot. Thanks in advance.
-
sorry PC i just got home and seen your post, didnt go by lake today to get a look at it

sorry PC i just got home and seen your post, didnt go by lake today to get a look at it
Found out today that a buddy of mine went out of Perry Public Beach Thurs late morning through mid afternoon and told me he step right on to the ice and the main ice was still good about 8" but getting soft on top 2". He kept 15 perch. I'm going in the morning and will post when I get home if I get out or not. Hope to fish all day.
-
Went to Northeast side this morning. Standpipe Rd has 6' of open water at the shore not accessible. Perry Public Beach has 2' of open water at the shore. Laid a 10' plank across to the ice and the 1st 3' of ice the bar went through with 2 hits. Main ice does look good but getting to it for me was unsafe. By the end of the day the shore ice may have been so bad even with the plank I may not have been able to get off. Pulled the plank and went home. 40 years ago I would have taken the chance. Over all it was a good year for perch on Silver.
-
yep PC was a good year, and your right 40 years ago i probably would of went out also, but its gonna go and can get boats out
-
Sad to see it go.
Talk to all you guys next Winter and have a safe off season.
-
does anyone know if the ice is off the lake yet?
-
North and south end are clear. Ice from around red garage to just south of the country club as of 4/5.
-
Just received my perch bait today, Mousees and white / pink Spikes. I am ready but the lake is not. Maybe after X-mas or before New Years.
-
Mine are on the way too. Speedyworm spikes. Can’t wait for ice! Gear has been ready for weeks.
-
What's the status of the lake at the moment?
-
Wide open
-
Wide open
Second that. It had a light skim on the South end and along the shoreline a week or so back but that didn't last. The water is the right temp to make ice if the freezing temps get here and stay in the teens for a week.
-
Is the "Hole in the Wall" restaurant a decent place to go after being out on the ice with the kids? I can't tell from the website if it is a true hole in the wall gin mill or if it's a fancy place on the lake.
-
Mack's is the place to go.
I do enjoy a tube steak....
-
I second macks!
-
As far as I know Mack's is still not open yet. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though.
-
tried to call mac's today phone not in service
-
macks is still closed. would eat at little restaurant in town perry just past napa good food good price. kid friendly too.
-
I think Mack’s is closed down permanently.
-
I don't feel too bad hijacking this thread for food as there isn't much ice activity yet. Back to the Hole in the wall - is it worth a visit?
-
Food is good. They do have wood fire pizzas, burgers, wings. But it’s is a fine dinning restaurant.
-
I didn't know that Max's was closed.😟
-
remodeling

used to fish silver years ago with my dad, we always did really well with the pike there.. I have heard from several people that the fish numbers are way down and the fishing isn't what it used to be. true or false?
-
I’m on this lake all year and yes the fishing for me anyhow has slowed way down. I am by far no expert though. This summer the hits and size of perch and bluegill were getting better. (Hand fillers). Fingers crossed for a better year. Still going after the elusive walleye. Marked a few on the east side north of Mack’s but couldn’t get a strike. Anxious to try through the ice.

If Mack's is still closed "the Hole" would have been my go to. They've positioned themselves from being a great local diner to a fine dining type restaurant but the food is good, the staff is nice, and it's close. The Lumber Yard is an option as well but also fine dining style. Darryl's is close for pizza, wings, subs. I never cared for the place by NAPA for a variety of reasons but opinions vary. If by chance you're headed west, Laurie's in Warsaw will make everyone smile. There is also Pizza Depot in Silver Springs and Al's Pizza in Castile both a couple minutes from the state launch. I can recommend their food. Mack's had a flood a few months ago and was struggling to get back in operation. They were still closed my last trip by at the end of deer season. Haven't seen anything on their FB page either. May have lost the battle?? Didn't realize how often I stopped by there till they were closed..........:(
-
Since its closed is parking in that area still allowed? I have not been to silver in 4-5 years and have heard parking at the state lot has changed. What is the updated parking situation for the south end?
-
Any one know
-

The only thing that has changed at the state lot is it costs $5 now year round. They have a pay machine and they do check. Still a great deal for a nice plowed lot and a clean, heated bathroom!
-
You can park at state launch but they charge a fee. There is a machine to use and get a receipt. They do come and check
-
You can park there with an empire pass.
-
If you park there with your empire pass make sure to get the parking pass too. If you go to the visitor center at Letchworth with your empire pass they will write of a parking pass for you dashboard. This is supposed to be good at all the state launches and you won’t have to worry about coming back to a ticket. This is if you get there before the attendant is posted. I asked about just leaving the pass on the dash and they said that should be kept on you. They will ticket as others stated.
-
OK thanks all for the clarification. Hoping to hit the ice Friday afternoon before the storm

I've been told to leave the card on the dash..........depends on who's looking I guess.
-
It`s ridiculous if you have to pay a fee to get on Silver lake. Allegheny state park has no fees now at all. With the taxes we pay it should be free.
-
Yeah it's just silver lake that you have to pay, Honeoye is free right now. I guess it's cause at silver the maybe to pay for the heated bathroom. Not that our fees go towards the launches.
-
I'd pay $5 at Honeoye if they heated/cleaned/updated that nasty ass bathroom lol
-
Letchworth state park does not charge to get into the Main park through castle entrance. You have trails to walk, cross country. Skiing, snowmobile , and tubing with heated bathroom's. Now where do they get off charging. Icefishing and you can't launch your snowmobile, or atv
-
I was putting money in the machine and a Park Police pulled Up it was a nice lady said you do not have to pay you don't have to pay at letch State Park either that was yesterday
-
Standpipe, today Sat. had 6" of clear hard ice. Bite was slow only kept a doz 8-9" perch. Walked toward the Golf Course and Perry Beach cutting holes all the way, ice remained at 6". 4" of snow at 3 pm when I left made the drag a little tough, will need the Smitty next time. A lot of fishermen on the South end when I drove by at 8 am
-
At the south end and not sure what to do. There is a layer of slush ice spud went right through and scared the crap out of me. Drilled a few holes and the proper ice seems very inconsistent. Not experienced enough to know if this is dangerous. I’m the only one here. If anyone else knows what they are doing let me know. Lol. Going to check conesus
-
Don`t take chances by yourself! It will be thicker soon enough. Sure guys will be there this weekend.
-
how thick was the ice today ?
-
Rule of thumb.. If there's nobody on and it's a weekend, ice is no good
-
Silver did not get the snow Friday nite like the snow belt did. 1-2" of snow on the lake. Ice is 8" thick and solid no snow ice. Shore is a little wet from when the lake rose from the rain mid week past and the ice broke away from the shore. Bite was on and off all day, mid lake, caught 40 kept 26 8-9" perch with a few 10"s mixed in. Made more ice today.
-
Thanks for the report Perch chaser. Looks like 2 1/2 days this week won`t get over 10 degrees. All the WNY lakes should be safe going forward.
-
Does anyone know if Higgins self-serve bait on W. Lake road has shiners? I might head out there this weekend and want to know if I should buy bait before making hour drive. Thanks.

Beers51, 3 posts are required to access the NY Fishing and Conditions page. As for fishing on Silver Lake, look through the above posts, I've been on the ice the last 2 weeks. Ice last Sat was 8" thick. Perch bite so, so. Gills not bad on the South end.

Stopped and bought some bait at the self-serve baitshop today and talked with the owner. He’s been ripped off twice this week including once today. A few cheap losers are going to ruin it for the rest of us.

This is BS. He needs to set up a camera and post the pictures of these A-holes all over the net. What a bunch of low lifes. He's the only game in town. Maybe if these people are publicly shamed, it will slow down. I don't have enough contempt for these jerks that steal.
-
He’s got a picture up of The guys truck that ripped him off. Can we post those pictures here? So that we can help Higgins with this stuff? I have been throwing in a few extra bucks each time to help him offset that nonsense. I figure he’s saving me 20 or 30 bucks in gas not having to drive to conesus. Got to go first bite!
-
Fished out of Perry Public Beach from 8:00 to 1:00, 10" of solid clear ice, no snow ice. Patchy snow on top, very easy drag. Fished 35 FOW, bite was slow, only caught a few 8"-9" perch. Moved to State Launch at South end at 1 pm. Two of us caught over 40 perch in the afternoon, left the lake at 5:30 with (30) 8"-9" perch. Ice was the same as North end. There was a Rescue Team practicing ice rescue just to the left of the State Launch. They had cut out large sections of ice to get to clear water. When they left they did leave a few caution cones around the holes, but a machine moving quickly could drop into the open water, use caution in this area.
-
Any ice reports? You one out today?
-
There were quite a few guys out on the lake today, any one want to give an ice report along with shore ice status? You don't have to give a fish report. I am there every weekend and give an ice and fish report when I get home, so others may use the info., how about you guys this time. Did not make it today but will report tomorrow nite.
-
I wasn’t out today by plan to get out there tommorow. Can post a report tommorow!
-
Ice 8-10 clear off perry beach where I was today.
-
Went out of State Launch at 8:30 am and shore ice was OK to get on. You could see where the shore ice had melted away and reformed out about 6-10 ft . Did not cut a hole through the new ice but you could see it was not as thick as the main ice sheet. 3 solid wacks with the spud did not go through. Main ice was 8" but you could see a lot of vertical streaks or lines going from the top surface to the under water surface. This main ice sheet must have started to "Candle" (honeycomb) during the warm spell and rain last week. The latest cold temps have refroze the ice surface and it is hard at this time but loaded with vertical streaks and cracks in all directions. There were a lot of pike fishermen out on the South end in the AM. Perch bite was OK for me in the AM but better just before dark. Very little snow on the ice.
-
Planning to go out of Perry beach tomorrow. Never used this access before. How is the parking and how long of a walk to get to fishing grounds?
-
Not a ton of parking generally just on the side of the road ,about a 50 yard walk to lake
-
Don’t forget the big hill....
-
The parking at Perry Beach they don't plow very good if there is a lot of snow, and ya the hill is a brute, steep 45* at the lake and then about 15* for 50+ yds. to the road. I fished Perry Public Beach from 8:00 to 5:00 today, 20 yds of shore ice was a little slushy with crust on top, but safe. Main ice was 10" black ice with inch or two of white snow ice on top. Patchy snow on lake, very easy drag. Fished 33 FOW, perch bite was ok until noon then very slow after that.
-
Plenty of room at in the perry beach parking lot. Room for maybe 12-15 vehicles. Yeah, the hill can be rough. Especially if no snow on the grass.
-
Thanks for that hill info. Saved my beat up old a$$. Went to west side golf club, much easier. Could see that hill on other side. No likey. Fished noon till 5:00 in 35 ft. Partner got 20 perch, kept 6. I used slip bobber, kept icing up, no shelter. Got zero. LOST ONE ANTIQUE LOOKING CREEPER WITH BLACK STRAPS HERE. PLEASE PM IF FOUND THANKS

Looks like big landscaping and facility changes are coming to the perry town beach. Project in the works to refurbish the whole thing. Construction estimated to start in the spring. Maybe it’ll mean easier access to that spot for the 2019/2020 season.

It won't. The side street will be a dead end at the "drop off" which is intended for canoe/kayak use. If you can drop your ice gear off there, you'd then have to drive around to the parking lot. the parking lot will be another 50 yards up the hill. I commented on this when it was first published. No consideration had been given to ice fishing access at that point and I'd doubt anything has changed.
-
I fished South of the Silver Lake Country (golf club) today at the top of the deep water trench in 34 FOW from 8:00 to 6:00 pm and caught a few 8-10" perch. Fish were under me all day but only hit on and off, see graph pic below. I entered the lake from the East side and walked across the lake. Shore ice was good and main ice was 10" with about 2" of snow on top. The depth on my electronics was changing from 34.4' to 35.1' that is a .7'( 6") change. You wouldn't believe it but the strong wind today was causing the ice to move up and down like a wave similar to a wave on open water. It is more noticeable on larger lakes but does happen on smaller lakes also. There was a beautiful sunset.

Fished out of Perry Public Beach to the South from 8:00 to 3:00, shore ice was packed snow cover, not a problem getting on. Main ice was 10" black ice with inch or two of white on top. Main ice was mainly snow covered with 1-2" of packed snow, easy drag. Fished 34 FOW, perch bite was slow all day. Fish were finicky and required a constant jig movement. Two of us kept (20) 8-1/2" - 10" perch. Lot of fishermen out today from the mid lake area to the far North end. ECNO officers were out and checking.

Has the Bluegill fishing made any sort of comeback at the South End? Used to be good a few years ago, but went downhill the last couple of years due to lack of weeds.....Not looking for anyone's secrets, just a general report to know if it is worth trying it again this year....
Thanks,
Phil
-
They have been doing well on blue gill and perch down on the south end near the cattails

For perch go out deeper in 20 FOW at South end.

I guess no one wants to post on this site anymore. Well I will and this report is for the guys who can not access the reports page yet.
Went out of the Silver Lake Golf Club today. Shore ice was good no slush and there was 12" of clear ice under 4" of snow on top of the lake. My Smitty was a help. I saw guys pull their flat bottom huts out on the lake and had a hard go of it. Cut holes at 4 different areas on the West side to the middle of the lake. There were fish at each location shown on my graph but tight lipped, I was only able to catch a few good perch. The old Silver Lady cut me down a notch or two today, damn humble pie doesn't taste good. When I left at 6 pm there was a new inch of snow added to the lake and it was still snowing.
-
Thanks for the report might try next wknd. Never did good there on perch. Once on sunfish was good. Perch on camera a few times just not active not sure why. Definitely not like Chautauqua. Always get something there.
-
This afternoon there was a ton of activity, bordering on clutter, about half a foot off of the bottom up to about 5 feet off of the bottom. Did anyone with a camera get any images of what was down there? I was able to jig out a couple of perch but I also had some extremely light bites like what I would expect off of smelt or shiner in the harbor - though I don't expect either one of those as the culprit here. Just a wonderin'.
-
Those are crappie I can’t get away from them this year on silver I have caught probably 150. Only two keepers. Everyone is about 8 to 8.5 inches long.

If you don't mind...what were you using on them? I threw just about the entire tacklebox at them and no joy.
-
Hali jig tipped with red spikes half of them won’t bite but stop just above the school and slowly jig up a foot or two you will see one come out of the pack and take it. Like I said though none of them are keepers I sure wish I knew the answer to that.

I was there Sat and saw the same activity on my graph near the bottom and 5 ft wide at times. I did catch about a 1/2 doz of these culprits, they were 2-1/2"- 3" perch, see photo and some were smaller. They were biting so light most of the time I missed. I think the only reason I caught some was, I was using a 1/32 oz micro jig tipped with mousees. I have also caught quit a few of the short crappies this year but they hit harder like a good size perch.
(https://i.postimg.cc/6T725CDh/micro-perch.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/6T725CDh)
-
When I would get light hits I typically had a small glow perch jig tipped with spikes about 6-18" over the swarm, but never set the hook on them. The few 6-7" perch that I got were with a perch jigging rap so that makes some sense.
Maybe those calico were feeding on the perch? It was a weird and slow weekend!
-
Fished Sat on the North end in 34 FOW from 8 am-6 pm moved 6 times staying deep. 3 locations showed allot of fish on the bottom, but bite was far and few between only caught 22 perch between 2 of us and only kept (13) 8"-10". NE and E wind did not help. As the old timers say " When the wind is in the East the fish bite the least". Main ice was 12" now and shore ice was solid. Lake is snow covered with 4" of packed snow but your boots break through makng it difficult to walk and pull your flat bottom sleds. I used my Smitty and the pull was easy.
-
With this harsh wind/thaw/runoff, does anyone know how it will impact the water clarity throughout the lake system (north vs south end)? Thank you.
-
Fished the south end Saturday from 7am to 7pm. Steady perch action pretty much all day with some slow times mixed in. Ended up with 23 keepers and many throw backs. Had a nice pike grab my puppet minnow. Lost it because the darn rear hook broke! Also lost a monster largemouth right at the hole. Got into a few nice gills right before dark. Had the put the work in and hole hop to keep them interested. Walking was brutal with the crusty snow. Great day to be out!

With this harsh wind/thaw/runoff, does anyone know how it will impact the water clarity throughout the lake system (north vs south end)? Thank you.
There are creeks on the West side at the State Launch, Buffalo Point, Silver Grove, Golf Club. The main inlet is on the North end as well as the outlet. On the East side there are only a few drainage areas and culverts. All water runs Northeast to the outlet. Sight fishing in the shallows maybe difficult but the deep water perch fishing probably won't be effected.
-
For fishermen who don't have fishing report access. Fished two locations today. 8am-1pm out of Perry Beach. Access across the lawn is getting bare and hard to drag, try not to wreck the lawn. Shore ice still had snow cover. Main ice was 15" measured. Perch bite in deep water was slow again today. 2pm-6pm fished 31 FOW off Traber road. Shore ice had no snow cover, but was able to step right on. Main ice again was 15" and when I left the ice surface was completely wet and some puddles were forming all across the lake. Top inch of ice was degrading. Perch bite again was slow but kept a few nice ones, left with 20 perch. No matter where you go the perch bite is the same.

A communication from Perry Public Works. Please pass this on to all ice fisherman (and women!).
Hi, Mark Hope all is well with you, Just Checking in to give you an update on what's happening With the lake. Due to the pleasant temperatures we have had the last few days, a lot of the snow has melted. I anticipated that and I opened the gate before hand and we are okay but my concern is for the ice fisherman. The gate is open full and I may have to keep it that way for the weekend. Please inform any fishermen that you may know of about this because moving water along with our temperature will thaw the ice faster. I will be monitoring the lake level closely.
-
This post is for fishermen that can not access the "Fishing Reports and Conditions Page". Fished off Perry Beach today from 8am-4pm. Shore ice was broken and melted away about a foot so someone had used a 8' plank to get on and we used it also and had no problems once out 4 feet. Main ice was 10" today but was 15" on Wed 3/13. Top couple inches of ice is soft and cuts into small chunks not shavings. Bite was slow again today. See below pics for Perry Beach shore - plank req'd; Standpipe Rd shore - left side of gray house, shore not open yet; Right side of gray house, plank req'd and State Launch shore - plank req'd. Open each pic and the name is in the tab at top or the pics are in order as stated in my post.

We got out for one last hurrah on the south end today.. fished from 7-2 and caught a half bucket of mixed panfish in the shallows. Ice is just about done out there. 4-5 inches of weak ice filled with bubbles ready to go. Shore ice wasn't terrible coming off but got reports of shore ice being shot at the north end as of today, couple guys busted thru where the plywood was.. not very safe at this point and definitely not worth the risk for panfish that size just my opinion.. boats are on standby ready for a warmup. That's it for my season it was a good one.

I talked to the Perry Town Hall and they said the bid selection for the renovation to the Perry Town Park was made in Sept. They also said they were starting with the parking lot and bathroom facilities this year. I asked about ice fishing access this Winter and the town hall representative did not know if it would be opened for ice fishing. They told me to call back at year end and they would have a better answer. Hope they finish phase one before winter, keep your finger crossed. The attached website shows the planned chnges.

If the snow isn’t too deep, it’s easier to park at the country club on the west side and walk across the lake anyway. Don’t have to climb up that big beach hill at the end of the day then.
-
Only had a quick look at the South end today, just did not have time to drive the whole lake. There is skim ice with light snow on top out of the state launch which goes up past Silver Lake Marina and across toward Macks. I plan on another scouting day mid to end of week and will drive complete lake and report ice thickness. Below freezing temps predicted for the next 10 days with some teens at nite, that will make more ice. May be out between X-mas and New Years.
-
Thanks for the report perch chaser. Hopefully the snow predicted mid week doesn’t ruin the ice making. Looking forward to your next report.
-
I did the rounds on Silver today and here is my scouting report. I published it here also for fishermen that can not access the New York Fishing Reports and Conditions board.
1.) State Launch South end had 3-1/2" of ice out 50 yds, no snow. 100 yds out the ice is snow covered with 1" slush, ice was 2-1/2". Not safe for me to go any further but I assume the slush did.
2.) Traber Rd, West side, you can still park along the North side of the road and ice was the same as State Launch.
3.) Silver Grove, West side, the no parking and posted signs are gone. There is a Wyoming County Wildlife Federation sign along the dead end section that states to be considerate crossing landowners property. You decide whether to go out there.
4.) Golf Course, West side, had 3" of ice 50 ft out with major wet cracks North, South, East and West. Snow covered ice was wet at the cracks.
5.) Standpipe Rd, East side, had 3-1/2" of ice 50 and 100 yds out with slight snow cover. Lots of wet cracks to the South. 3 huts and 2 single fishermen were out approx 300 to 400 yds. The no parking signs along Standpipe Rd have been removed.
6.) Perry Public Beach is under renovation, the parking lot is gone, there is huge piles of dirt and gravel in its place. The access to the lake now has large rip-rap. It is a no go this year in my opinion.
7.) The hamlet of Silver Lake on East Side Mid Lake still has signs that say no parking along lake shore. Park at your own risk. The ice was 3-1/2" with slight snow cover. Wet in spots out there probably cracks like at the other sites.
8.) The old Wyoming County Land access on Lakeview Rd, East side just down from the Ashbury Retreat Center still has the path through the woods down to the lake but the Wyoming County sign is gone and the ice was the same as the other East shore access.
The above is for info. only, you make your own decision whether to go out on the ice.
-
Higgins Family Bait shop on West Lake Rd is open again this year. Today he had white spike and pike minnow bait.
-
Fished silver yesterday off the north end. Lots of dink perch with some good keepers in-between. I had the whole lake to myself. Pretty cool.
-
It was not a nice ride to the lake today, but I had to check for myself. The lake has SKIM ice from South to North. No way good enough to walk on, the moment I put weight on the shore ice at the State Launch it broke. Snow was falling but wind seemed to keep it clear with only patches of snow out there. Will need another week of these below freezing temps and no more snow.
-
Another week? I'm bored out of my mind been through my stuff more times then I can count lol thanks for the report
-
Where have the bluegills gone to?
-
Forgive my ignorance here but I’ve been content on the south end for a few years. Is there any access other than start park, standpipe and the town park? I would love to get to the north end if possible. I think if I go another week without drilling some holes I may need physiatric help. (A trip up north may be more likely but a 5 hour ride from Wyoming county cuts into the fishing time)
Thanks
-
Maybe the country club on NW side? We have never gone out of there but I believe you can park there?
-
For those of you that are considering going out tomorrow but may change your mind, here is the latest report. Went out of Standpipe Rd and drilled the 1st set of holes in 28 fow then started South every 100 yds or so until I reached the Perry Town Park and then I drilled another 4 spots there. Ice is 5" total with 3" black and 2" hard frozen white with only a dusting of snow on top. There is a large crack running from Tuckers Livery across the lake to the West side. Luckily the crack is only 2" wide, because it is froze over with only 1" of ice. The bite at every location I tried was the same, very slow and the perch were short nothing over 6", I caught 32 from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. There were also quit a few fishermen out of the State Park on the South end and at mid lake out of Silver Lake on the East side. Tried Plastics, Mousee, Spikes and perch eyes, and around 6 different jigs, none were any different then the other. Don't understand why we caught a lot of 8-10" perch last year but nothing over 6" today.
-
yea perch chaser i hear u ifish off silver grove the last 2 yrs limited out almost every time with 8-10. yesterday about 150 dinks an 4 8inchers. other than the last 2 yrs. this lake has had serious issues the last 10-12 yrs. i feel when they ended the walleye stocking in 1998 its been down hill. up to 2008 the eye an perch fishing was very good, since then pretty much 0 eyes an dink perch. If u get one it is usually 5-10 lbs.
-
I think it has a lot to do with people keeping rediculous amounts of fish and expecting to not to change anything ,it’s not Lake Erie but it gets treated the same
-
Frogger- you summed this post up quickly. These fish don't reproduce over night.Too many guys with the " FILL THE FREEZER ATTITUDE.
-
The other thing is deep water fishing. Baratrauma is a real thing. Unfortunately it’s a good bet that a lot of the 7s, 8s and dinks that are caught in 35’ and released probably don’t survive. Limiting usually means potentially killing lots of dinks amid the occasional keeper. I’m not innocent. I’ve caught my share of deeper perch, but this year I’m going to upsize baits to try to reduce catching small ones in deep water.
-
If anyone lost a piece of gear while coming off the ice today at the state launch, PM me. If you correctly identify what I found on the shore when leaving the ice today, I’ll help get it back to you.

Awesome fish!! Congrats! Anybody been heading out by the golf course?
-
They’ve been tough to find for a few years. But if you really search for them and find them you can have awesome days.
-
Anyone have info on ice conditions off the state launch?
-
Can anyone report how the ice is and opinions for going out Saturday? I am hoping to get out there Saturday for first time out this year. This winter really stinks!!
-
I fished the south end last Sunday. Moved around quite a bit looking for fish. Everywhere I drilled was 3.5” to 4”. Probably didn’t thin much this past week but probably didn’t get thicker either. Plus might have some snow on it by the weekend.
-

As I said above in my report from Sat and most everyone else out last weekend the perch are small nothing larger then 6", so be prepared to catch a lot of small ones with an occasional perch you may want to keep. Also talked to a few guys during the week and the perch bite and size was the same as reported earlier.
-
Thanks for the replies. I am just hoping not too much snow falls that way today too mess anything up. I am just looking forward to getting out no matter what I catch at this point this year. Hopefully won't be the last time I can get out. I have the whole day to burn on Saturday!
-
Been killing the pike and gills. catching not fishing
-
Anyone been out today? How much snow down there and how's the ice? We were hoping to get down there tomorrow, but don't want to waist a trip. We are in lockport.

It seems you been killing the fish where ever you go. Walleye, perch and large crappies at Honeyoe to pike and gills at Silver, why stop there, why not report on the next lake, ha ha Lets see some pic's.

I fish everyday when there's ice. 20 big gills today
-
I have fished silver lake since i was a kid. You may be killing the pike, but not the gills or crappies.

We were out yesterday by the state launch . Ice was 6” but at least half of that was white. We just went after pike and got some nice ones. Slow in the am but picked up in the aft.

Fished the North end out of Standpipe Rd and then Perry Beach today. Set-up at least in 6 different spots, the ice was 5" hard with 2" slush and 1" of hard crust that you broke through in most spots making the walk and drag difficult without a smitty. Silver did not get the amount of snow that most areas did. There is only about an inch on the ice, but breaking through the crust into the slush made the difficult walk. Not all spots showed fish but the ones that did, they were small crappies or small perch. If this mess freezes the ice will be 8" plus.
-
/nice pike

Just because you aren’t doesn’t mean no one is. They’re tough to find but once your on em it’s game over.

I agree with that. I had a great day on Silver yesterday. Poor dude posts that he came home with 20 gills and is called a liar!

He has good bait. Always stocked. Always open. Baitfish are fresh and simple to dispense. All bugs in bulk or single use containers. He's bigger then his help-your-self shop appears.

Higgins bait shop about a mile down from state launch
-
Thanks guys. Fished off the state launch today and found about 3-4 inches of black ice and a couple inches of white ice on top. The drag was good, no slush on top
-
Nice to know they did not get a lot of snow like the rest of us did. Thanks for the report
-
How's the fishing on silver
-
Stellar!
-
If you like dink perch
-
Yep. A whole day of dinks today. Ice is in great shape though. 7”, mostly white though.
-
Fished off golf course Sunday afternoon. Mostly dinks and Four 8-9 in. Saw a lot of huts on south end when we were leaving. How was the fishing north or south ? Would appreciate some advice. Is it only early or late bite and slow in afternoon?
-
Hi everyone. I've been off this site for 2 years because I couldn't remember my password lol! I did the password change and never got an email back so on a whim I tried one of my million passwords and it worked.
I'm in the same boat. Except that mine was locked up in an email account I know longer have. Sooooo I reregistered.
-
Fished just north of Mac's yesterday and kept 9 gills and one crappie. 5 hours worth. Still waiting for the bite. Be patient, and they will come.

We were there at north end today 3 flags no fish on east side, ice was 9” 3-4 in black. Where abouts on the north end are you catching pike?
Careful on the North end. Right in the center of the North end is the inlet creek and in the Northeast corner is the outlet creek. There is a strong current in those two areas in the Spring. Also in Perry there is a dam on the outlet that they may open unannounced in the Spring to keep the lake level consistent. When that happens the outlet current increases under the ice wearing it away. You must know the far North end ice in order to be safe.
-
Out on silver now. What a great day to be on the ice.
Ice still solid on top. Easy drag.
-
Been fishing other lakes on the weekends but may give Silver another try mid-week. If you don't mind getting out on the ice in the rain then the next couple of days could be good fishing or should I say catching. I have a nice Ice Armor suit and a well treated flip-over which stays nice and dry inside. I have caught a lot of fish in the past in the rain, don't let that stop you.
-
Fished silver today for gills. Found them in five fow. They where very reluctant to bite. Even imparted nervous quivering action apone my jig proved to be of no avail. I did manage to catch eight nice gills and two perch. A heavy and ominous fog set in apone the lake. The gills are still in silver. Not like they used to be, but they are their.
-
Yes the fog started around 1:30 or 2:00. Really thick, I have been caught out on Erie and Oneida in the heavy fog and had no concept where North was and had to come off by compass, the compass is always part of my fishing gear.
-

That's a good idea. That fog was wicked.

Looked like everybody was having a good time out there for the tournament. I was out from about 10-230, the ice was white and probably about 7.5" in all the holes we drilled...and we drilled alot. Had one hold sort of out from silver lake marina where we were catching some dink perch and that was it. Great day on the ice, probably more people out than I have ever seen on the south end. Kids laughing, plenty of sun and below freezing temps for most of the time. Everything seemed perfect except for the forecast....
A few nice pike at the check in - nice job anglers!
-
Went to Standpipe Rd North end today. Shore ice was drifted with snow and slushy, you sunk into the wet slushy snow about 6" until you were about 30 yds out from shore. 4" of snow on top the main ice, Smitty sled made it easier. Main ice was 10" of solid ice measured, 6" black and 4" white. Started in 8 FOW , then started South to 10 FOW, 15 FOW, 29 FOW and finally 34 FOW. Only caught 3 dink perch from 8 - 3 pm. Stopped at State Launch and saw that the shore ice where everyone was entering looked good, no slush. Guys coming off said ice was 8" and 4" snow on top.
I have fished this lake from the 60's to date. Caught many good perch but this year I have met my match. I can not understand or figure out why I was catching 10" perch last year and now not one near that size, most 4-6" dinks. The larger perch couldn't have just went away, or could they??
-
I’ve found a few decent sized perch this year, but unlike the past couple of years, I’ve really had to work to find them. Drilling multiple holes and hopping between them at times has been key. Catch a few and move, catch a few and move. I was out there today and they would come in and not bite.
-
Perch chaser same for me on Chautauqua. Hear about over 9" perch, but got 1 this year skinny, and 1 same size like a pop can a few years ago out of several thousand caught! Pondboss.com says perch can over populate lakes quickly. Hard to believe predators can`t keep up??? Then again walleye, and pike are targets.

Too many pike taken out of this lake during the Winter. I know of two guys that kept 12 this short ice season. Add that up with the large amount of pike guys on both ends every weekend and that means a lot of pike taken. Silver in reality is a small lake. Just my opinion from what I see.

Agree with that completely. I’m strictly catch and release with pike through the ice. Some days I think that silver can handle it, and other days I think it can’t. Really makes me wonder. The lake has been heavily promoted on social media the last few years and the amount of people I’ve seen on it has doubled since I first started fishing there. The perch got destroyed the last 2 years, and this year 80% of the posts were complaining about dink perch. Not to mention the bluegills on the south end aren’t there like they used to be.

This has been the norm for the last 20 or more years since social media has announced to the masses, large pike were in this lake. The pike population has existed as long as I can remember we even caught a few walleyes back in the late 50's and 60's. Most media information about this lake was by word and mouth, and back then only a few guys targeted the pike and there was a nice balance between the fish species. 10"-12" slob perch were common as were the big gills. Now there are limited number of predator fish and the perch have exploded. One other time this out of balance thing happened was in the late 1990's-2000's when the pike population fell way off. Then everyone started to fish elsewhere, you hardly saw a fishermen on Silver threw that time it was a ghost town, you could be the only one on the lake at times. It took roughly until 2015-2016 for the perch to show some larger size 2017-2018 season was good. It will again take 4-5 years for the fish balance to return. The pike tournaments on this lake also do not help. They require the pike to be brought to shore for weigh and measure. Those pike are dead at that point and can not be returned to the lake. Sorry for my rambling.

Iceshanty has basically ruined most of the lakes we fish. One post bragging about a decent haul and every clown and their brother is parking on top of one another. It’s a joke.
Only fun lake to fish now is Erie when it freezes. Catching 50 6” perch on silver and Chautauqua I guess is fun if you’re 8.
Yeah it’s ridiculous. We’ve lost parking because of the weekend warriors on the north end. It sucks. I love fishing silver it’s such a fun lake but man has it gotten blown up bad over the years... social media, tournaments, etc. couple weekends ago I must’ve seen over 100 tip ups on the south end while walking back to the boat launch. Years ago there would only be 4-5 groups out there it seems targeting pike. Now there’s 40. And I saw so many taken out this year. And if the fish weren’t taken home, they were either gaffed, held by the eyes, or had an entire forearm shoved up their gills. We’ll have to see in a few years if the added pressure at both ends makes a difference or not. Based on the fact the perch fishing sucked this year, but was phenomenal the last 2 years with everyone and their brother taking a limit, I’d say our catches have more of an impact on that lake than most think.

wow inevereard of tislake before!!!! most begood if you guys been fishing it for years thinkmy buddys and willhave to put this on our hit list ;D...thanks guys

Please do! Plenty of dinks to go around for everyone. Take all the 6” perch you want! I won’t even complain if you take a bucket of 7-8” crappies they gotta go! Take everybody you know please!!!
-
I'm intrigued, how big were the perch the last couple years? I have a cottage there but haven't been there on ice in three years.
-
8-10” perch were very common on silver until everyone and their 3rd cousins coworker showed up and pounded the snot out of both ends. Occasional fish over 10” were also caught. Combination of increased fishing pressure due to social media and just word of mouth are to blame for the increased pressure. It was normal to see over 70 huts out from the beach northward to standpipe. I guarantee perch fishing will be just as difficult this upcoming ice season as well. Realistically it’s not that large of a lake. I’d bet money other smaller non keeper sized fish died upon release because they were yanked up from 35’ of water in under 7 seconds. The lake can’t take 2 years of limits upon limits of perch being taken out and that’s being proven by a SHARP decline in size this year. Just my .02
-
I did an early drive around Silver Lake today Fri 12/18/20. The North end has skim ice just past Standpipe Rd. The North end creek water flow into the lake is still open out 300 to 400 yds. The South end has skim ice up to the State Launch and across the lake just short of Mack's. There is some shore ice along the balance of the lake but not much. It is going to be a few more weeks of teen temps for the North and South ends and even more for the main lake body. As a note Mack's boat livery is for sale and the parking lot was not plowed as of today, so I would assume that their parking area my not be available this year.
-
I Checked Silver today. 3" to 3-1/2" of ice at Southend State Launch straight out, I checked various spots going out to 300 yds. from shore. There were two fishermen out about 400 yds. South end ice only goes as far North as the South boarder of YMCA Camp then open water; Golf Course open water; Ice at Standpipe Rd was only 2" with open water to the North out 200 to 300 yds. Ice at Perry Beach only 2" and only goes out 100 to 200 yds. with open water all the way to the West Shore. At Mack's it was open water to the North. See ice pic's attached. You have to open each pic to see the location. This is only a report, you make your own decision.

Today the South end out 300 to 400 yds from the State Launch the ice was again 3" to 3-1/2" thick, 4 hard hits with my 1" wide spud goes through. There is open water just North of Silver Lake Marina that goes across the lake to Mack's and open all the way to the North end. Roughly a doz or more fishermen on the South end today, many without a spud, crazy. Caught small perch and gills, threw them all back. It is your decision as to whether you go out on this thin ice.
-
Nice thorough reporting, perch chacer. Thanks.
-
With the South end being the only fishable ice at the present, everyone is out there and like always if they see a group they assume they must be catching fish and they head in that direction. Before long you have a small village all in one area as it was today. You would be surprise what a lot of surface traffic can do to the fish bite in shallow water. I head in the opposite direction. There was an ok perch bite today where I was, but mostly small only a few were 8". Need deep water 30-35' mid lake for some bigger perch, but I'll have to wait a few more weeks for the mid lake perch bite. Stay safe this time of year and use your spud. PS: Higgins Bait at Silver Lake on West Lake Rd at Abbott has fat head minnows, mousees, red and white spikes, etc. Great place to buy your bait, give them a try.
-
Was at Silver on Wednesday this week. Ice is about 4 inches until the marina all across the south end. Only caught small perch and one pike. definitely not worth the trip

Anyone have any infrormation on any recent NYSDEC Walleye stocking?

Does anyone know if you need to pay to park at State Park/boat launch to ice fish there in the winter?

I fished on Thursday and we talked to a state trooper in the lot and said that they are not patrolling it for tickets ( but he didn't say that) so have fun and fish on!

Is higgans open? Where you get bait?
I posted this 6 posts above: Higgins Bait at Silver Lake on West Lake Rd at Abbott has fat head minnows, mousees, red and white spikes, etc. His sign says he is open 24hrs., it's a self-serve. Be honest and drop him a tip now and then. He has good prices and keeps great bait all season long. He did not have pike chubs (shiners) last weekend but he might have them now that the ice is staying fishable.

The yearly walleye stocking program for Silver Lake was stopped in 1996, because the walleye were reproducing naturally. Due to decline in the walleye population since then the stocking of walleye fingerlings was reinitiated in 2016 and 2018 (as Youngblood has said) and was suppose to continue bi-annually, 2020??

They had some big shiners the morning that I went on a weekday.

Good Morning to all, new to the site, long time follower though browsing all the topics. I will be staying on Silver lake this weekend, I believe I will be closer to the north end. Is the whole lake locked up now? That would be nice to be able to fish in front of the cottage. How is the walleye fishing on the lake? Thank you all in advance.

The eyes are around but good luck catching them. Better off going after pike. Nobody has been out in north end yet just drove by it has wet spots I would fish the south end to be safe.
-
Sounds good. Thanks Scooby31 for the update. Yeah I was going to try for some pike with a few tip-ups, saw there was walleye and figured ill give it a try. I got a few in Honeoye last year when I was told it was slow. MAYBE by Saturday that north end will be better and I can get some tipups out a 50-100 yards.
-
Found the gills today. A lot of dinks, but when the Biggins showed up, boy where they big. :woot:
-
Riddle. South end? I see on the web camera a lot of people out there. I will be out there Saturday. I will try by the Institute if the ice looks safe. Were they shallow? Any pike hitting?
-
Youngblood & perch chaser, thanks for the info. Promising, as they are stocking with fingerlings. ;D
-
Any info on snowfall totals on the ice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
-
Haven't been on the lake but about 12in. on the ground.
-
Thanks. It's about the same out my way as well. Probably stay local then. I appreciate it.
-
I’m going to target eyes in the morning. I’ll send some pics😂
-
A ton of people out on the south end by the state launch. Hope the bite is good over there.
-

I’m gonna pick on you but I got no pics worth it neither.
WHERES THE PICS!! Lol
Prolly jinxed yourself.
-
Might need to cut him some slack. ;)When that lake was being supplemented with stockers, it fished well.
-
I've fished this lake since the early 60's most every weekend during the Winter, we used to caught an occasional eye through the ice. Even when they had the walleye stocking program in the 80's and 90's and there was a good 4 year population in the lake, we only caught a few during the Winter. The majority of walleyes caught were during the soft water months and you got some nice ones. Now that the walleye population is low, Winter eyes just aren't caught in this lake. DEC started restocking some fingerlings in 2016 and 2018 but not many just a test stocking. If you want Winter walleyes go to Chautauqua, Conesus or Oneida. Good luck.

Does anyone know if the bathrooms are open on the state launch? Or are they closed up for the winter?
-
They were open on Sunday
-
Does anyone know if the bathrooms are open on the state launch? Or are they closed up for the winter?
Yes the bathrooms are open and heated. The state has someone keep the bathrooms cleaned daily. It is a benefit as part of your taxes if you use them and leave. It is part of the $6 fee you pay when you enter if your going to park there and stay. The state also keeps the parking lot plowed the best they can depending on how much snow they get.
-
Does anyone know what the link for the weather camera on the lake is or if it is still up?

https://www.weatherbug.com/weather-camera/?cam=SLVLM
It is on the South end facing out from Silver Lake Marina
-
How much snow did the lake get?
-
So I get to standpipe to go fishing yesterday afternoon and see a cop there? He was talking to a couple people and then talked to a utility truck that was there, meanwhile my wife talked to this older guy asked how the fishing was and he said he wasn't fishing was just on a drive and went right down the hill and onto the ice! Apparently spun a donought and back up the hill and did not break through surprisingly not. So an ambulance came and checked him out not sure what happened with that I was on the ice at that point! I just don't know what he thinking ( he said he thought it was a cow pasture) **censored**!
-
I would like to know how he got through the cement barriers to get on the ice.
-
I would also like to know how he got his vehicle back up the 12' steep incline back on the road. He sure did not do it himself. Must have had a tow tuck? Anything more to your story :-\ ???
-
One set of track's was through the cable for in which that's where broke his passenger side mirror and the other set of track's was right over the pipe which is were I think he went down originally he was on top when I got there and I saw no tow truck just a utility truck and a cop and the guy with his truck
-
No one wants to keep this BS thread going?? ??? I guess the small perch and gills has got everyone disappointed. Got to be someone catching something. My bad also, I have been down on Chautuaqua for the last 3 weekends, but next week I'll be back I hope. Can't be too confident. Lets hear some stories, snow, slush, ice, fish.
-
Was out this morning for a little bit, more of the same as far as perch buncha 6"-8"ers and a short crappie. Still was a beautiful morning to be out.
-
I had the same luck with the 6-8" perch. Fished out of the State Launch out towards 30 fow and then back along the shore in front of the camp. Lots of walking and drilling but what a beautiful day. Shocking to see so few people out on the South end. Also hit up the bait shop on west lake as I forgot my bait at the house, spikes were lively and effective!

I was on the north side today, similar FOW. There was roughly 7 huts that I could see before I left at approx 1030(only had a few hrs) and passed a gentleman on the way out, I thought there would have been more as well. His spikes all season have been like that, its awesome!

Lake has been beat to hell the past few years. Not surprised people moved on. That’s the silver lake cycle. Pike fishing is slow, perch and crappie are running undersize. There’s been a lot of pike tournaments the past 4 years now and it’s gotten a lot of exposure on social media. In a year or 2 perch and crappie sizes will increase, people will pound the lake again and we will be back to where we are now. It’s how this lake has been for the last 10 years now. Not hating on anyone or complaining, it’s just the way this lake goes.
-
Hi All,
I haven’t been to Silver since I was a kid, and decided to venture there this weekend for a change in scenery and some good cheese.
Navionics doesn’t have much marked for structure, and the Lake seems to be very deep— so just find a suitable depth, pray to the fish Gods, and Jig until my arm falls off?
I don’t typically like fishing deeper than 20’ because I just take pics and send the fish back, so is that a good place to start?
I’m not asking for your spots, just a good depth to set tip-ups and catch some pan fish. Always happy to help anglers get on fish at my home lakes— so I thought I’d seek your expert opinion. I’m unfortunately accustomed to not catching fish but still enjoying the outdoors, so if you don’t have any advice, it’s no skin off my back. ;)
Tight Lines!
-
best place to start would be off the state launch at the south west end. easy access to fishable waters. you can have a good day or a slow day there depending on if the fish are around. perch, bluegill, and pike with occasional bass can be caught. tight lines

If any of you Silver lake guys see a nut out there in a golf cart tomorrow off the state launch, stop by and say hi. Always looking forward to meeting other shanty members. I've got aggressive atv tires on it and get around great at camp. Probably going to need chains for some conditions, at camp I can burn down to the gravel roads. Ice will be different. Time will tell.
I have walking issues and just got my OPDMD permit from the state. I'm good to go out of the park launch.
Hope to see you.
-
I get away from the B.S. by putting my ate trailer on the launch and pushing it on the ice . No difference from launching a boat just 1goesin the water and 1 goes on the water . Know New York State law says you can't have a snowmobile or atv on the ice as long as you have helmet, insurance registration and a rigid bar so if you stop the stuff your towing will not hit the back of you. Been there ,Fought that and one. :callcops: :cookoo:
-
The cart didn't work as great as I hoped. The snow depth wasn't the problem, we made it out 50 yards before the hard pack trail gave out, but its sandy texture. The tractor cleat tires just burned through to ice, from there it was over. At camp, I'd hit gravel and go. Getting chains. I know an ATV would be better, but I can't afford one right now and I can pack a bunch of gear and a couple people on it too.

It looks nice though. Does that have four wheel drive? Definitely need chains.

cool man neat rig

No, just the stock open differential. My cart guy is gettin me a posi third member. Just starting the mods to increase performance.
It does well in river bottom mud for deer season. Just have to get it dialed in for ice.

Silver did not get the snow that WNY did today, only another inch or two. We stopped at the South-end state launch first to take a look and 4-wheelers today had some trouble with the slush but snow machines were moving ok. We moved up the lake and fished out from the Red Caboose. Parked on the East side and walked across. 6" of snow with 4" of slush which makes a tough walk and drag if you pull directly on the snow. I use a Smitty sled and the drag was good, but the walk through the slush is still tough. 14" of ice with 10" of dark and 4" of white. The fish were under us all day but the bite was on and off, caught quit a few but only kept (10) 8-9" perch threw anyone less then that back. Not worth cleaning a perch less then 8". Tried spikes, mousees, perch eyes and maxi-plastics with grubs. Maxi-plastics caught the most. I will be back again.

Great day too be out fishing. A bit windy. Caught the typical Silver lake perch. Kept a few for dinner.
-
Nice catch Riddle. How was the slush? Doesn’t look bad in pic
-
Not bad at all. I was almost midlake. With March on the way, I will be targeting the pike.
-
I was looking at the map the other day and it looks like there is a new place operating out of where Mack's used to be. Anybody have any info on it? Didn't have much of a website yet that I could find.

Restaurant was open briefly this summer. It was only open a few days a week (mostly weekends) with limited hours. Didn't last long.
-
Today I talked to the guy that owned Higgins Family baits on the West Lake Rd at Silver. He moved to a different house and he is no longer going to run the bait shop. He said it was not profitable. He told me the next closest bait shop to Silver Lake is Finger Lakes Bait & Tackle in Lakeville at the North end of Conesus Lake 1-585-346-7000.
-
That's horrible news. Higgans was a great place. 24 hour bait sold by the pound.
-
That stinks. He had a nice little shop. Great selection of pike bait and panfish jigs. So I guess we'll be off to Ted's on Conesus for bait.
-

Agree 100%>> he always had a great selection... What a shame.
-
He knew the right way to keep bait healthy. He showed me his set up once. He had 4 or 5 metal water troughs, each with a different baitfish. In them he had a steady drip of spring water, keeping the water temp at about 50 degrees. Kept them refrigerated until we bought them. This was so much better than other places with indoor tanks at room temperature. With being so close to the lake, the bait would still be warm had he not done it this way. It made dropping them into 30 degree lake water much less shocking on the bait. I wish more places would do this.
-
This sucks. It's a long drive to Lakeville just too get bait. Guess I will try and order bait online and have it shipped.
-
Camera showed quite of few folks out there. Be safe & tight lines!
-
How thick is the ice?
-
How thick is the ice?
I was out today for a couple hours, south end, there is a good 5 inches of ice. Not much snow at all. After the next few days of below zero, it'll be close to double that. Whole lake is froze, but didn't see anybody other than at the south end.
-
I was out of Perry Beach on Sunday. Ice was 7" of solid dark ice. Bite was slow, but did manage a few. The North end had a couple doz huts or so from Standpipe Rd to the golf course.
-
New to the lake this year, haven’t been out fishing yet. There’s about 14” of snow currently on the lake after that storm. Just talked to the new owner of what used to be Mack’s, he said he was not allowing people to access the lake through there and that it’s now all private. Looks like the state park it is then.
-
Any brave souls been on the lake at all? If so any ice reports
-
The web cam shows a couple people out on the south end yesterday late morning. It doesn’t look like they stayed too long.
-
The Dec website claims there's walleye in silver lake. Has anyone ever caught one or witnessed it, I know I haven't.
-
very very rare. saw a picture of a decent one a few years back a guy caught jigging perch. buddy of mine caught a 12 incher last year.
-
Used the catch them all the time in open water but seems to have become pretty rare in the last 10 years. I also know a guy that caught one towards the north end jigging for perch. It doesn't happen often but I am sure there are a few in there!
-
A number of years ago we caught a decent eye on a tipup with a shiner, South End weed edge. Needless to say we were quite surprised.
-
We were at the State Park in summer 2020 and the DEC was stocking walleye that day. They were tiny, so basically just feeding the pike.
-
Gotten shorts there is years past, fishing in 30 fow jigging for perch. I like it when you get a high flying slab cali that takes the bait. Walters are def. rare here and in some other lakes that have them. Kinda the MO for some of these lakes. Just a rant, but maybe an effect of the tournaments being held in the winter??
-
Heading to Silver tomorrow. Planning on fishing off of Traber. Will have to go with the Maki plastic baits. The spikes that I ordered from Ja da baits have not come in yet. It sucks that Higgens bait closed up.
-
Not to worry Riddle, plastics have been fishing well (on Perch).
-
Was out this morning, only guy one. The south end. Fished in front of the marina. 7” perch most of the morning. Forgot my graph so wasn’t as productive as I could have been. Probably be there in the morning unless I think of a better option. Maybe Conesus.

Fishermen do catch walleyes trolling the weed edges just before night in the Spring and early Summer. During late Summer the weeds are real thick.

Nice catch Riddlefiddle. Silver is worth a look again. A frame basin?

fFor perch, silver is good for 7 to 12 inch. Pike are very plentiful and large. Crappies are average and the gills as well.

Is this a stripe Less perch or a small walleye? :o
-
The head & eye ball looks more like a perch to me I've caught several different looking perch A small lake near me has a stain of almost white ones with the typical stripes in a greyish color
-
Maybe a European ruffe?
-
It's a stripe-less perch, the eyes are too small to be an 'eye
-
I caught a few of them last couple of years. It is a perch without strips. DEC knows about them in Silver lake.
(https://i.postimg.cc/D8ZcTd4d/Perch-no-strips.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/D8ZcTd4d)
-
Interesting...
Are they only stripe-less when they are small?
Do those ones get stripes when they get bigger, or do they stay stripe-less?
-
Thanks for all the replies. I have fished silver for a long time, and it's the first stripe Less perch I have caught in that lake. They must be few and far between.

Anyone been out pike fishing....gonna be out there this week a few times running a grid of tip ups with 2-3 guys....any input is appreciated 👍

Fishing for pike right now on the north end. No flags yet.
-
Thanks for the update Riddlefiddle! Is there usually more people fishing the north or south end? Not familiar with the area, where is the easiest access point? Good luck and tight lines!
-
Seems to me that more people fish the south end. You can access the south end from the state boat launch. Access the north end from the Perry public beach.
-
Any advice for the pike specifically for what part of the lake
-
You can find pike anywhere on the south end. I normally start setting tip ups in 4ft of water and gradually set the last one around 8 to 10fow. You will find them eventually.

I haven';t fished this lake in years because it's like Chautauqua. 6" perch all day. Has the size gone up, or is eveyone just wetting their whistle just to be on Silver? Rather test my luck at Allegheny State PArk or Kinzua.

I honestly think that the perch in Silver lake are starting to get bigger over the past three years. In my experience, I have been catching more 8 to 12 inch perch than dinks. Any perch 8 inches or more i keep. I believe most people who fish Silver are doing the same thing. This practice is making some room for growth for the fish.

Excellent to hear. Thank you.

No one is posting pic's with a ruler laying nearby. ??? I have been there a few times this year and I know what size the perch are. A picture is worth more then all the words posted. haha! If I get some good ones this Sat. I'll post a pic.
-
id like to see some of these 12s on a bump board haha
-
You know what they say. Most fisherman were born honest.....but they get over it! Lol

Fishing was tough today, but we managed to catch some nice eight and nine inchers before the wind blew us off the lake.
-
How was the slush/drag? Did you do north or south? I'm heading to south end tomorrow morning hoping to find some pike

The drag was not bad on the north end. The wind was horrendous.

We had to work for what we got today, 21 perch 8"-9-1/2", but caught a lot of shorts. Fish would come and go (see the broken line above the solid bottom line on my LC graph they are fish). Finally found the jigs and bite that worked the best. Fished mostly 30+ FOW. We had 4 sets of holes that we moved between all day. Would catch a few perch at each move, hole hopping. Staying in one location would have provided less fish. Ice was 12" black and 4" white, no snow on top but some minor slush. Access to the lake had snow for the drag.

Fished South of The Golf Course Club House 9-5pm. Shore ice to the North of the creek is still solid, but the creek to the South had washed out 30-40 yds of ice and it has only skimmed over again, so stay to the North if going out. Bite was slow, a lot of fish shown but only a few takers, kept (15) 7"-9" threw back all under 7". Main ice is 17" with only 1" of white on top. If you park at golf club stay in the upper lot, do not drive down the hill to the lower lot. We don't want them closing this access to ice fishermen.
-
Went off the Golf Course today. The creek on the right had washed away the ice out into the lake about 50 yds. after the earlier week high temps and rain. It has started to ice over again, but believe me it is very thin ice straight out from the creek. The North side shore ice at the access is solid and the main ice is still 16". Snowed on and off all day so there is at least 4" of snow on top.
I fished with a guy that had an Aqua-view camera today. I know now there are a lot of perch and some are big, 10" or better in Silver lake. Most of them would bump the bait with their nose and swim away, and you didn't even feel the hit. Others would suck in the bait and spit it out you hardly saw the spring bobber move. He was able to hook the perch as soon as he saw them suck in the bait. So for those who think there are no big perch in this lake you are wrong.

Perchchaser,
I’d just like to thank you for the quality of your reports. Especially the last three. They were very informative as to conditions, results, presentations to be successful, and even a detailed description of how numerous perch approached and even bit the bait and released the bait without the fisherman feeling the bite. One question was the bait being actively jigged or just dead sticked? ( laying motionlessly in the water. Basically trying to ascertain whether the anglers couldn’t feel the bite or couldn’t see the bite at the rod tip/spring bobber.
Thanks

We were constantly jigging and the spring bobber would move ever so slightly. If not paying close attention you never even knew the perch sucked in the bite and spit it out.

Panfish mania on silver lake.

Great colors on those fish. Good catch riddle

Thank you.

Good job Riddle.
I Fished out in front of the blue silo on the West side in 29FOW. Made 7 moves and found some perch that wanted to hit at the last two sets of holes. Kept a few 7-1/2" to 9-1/2". Mousees and white plastic worked better of all I tried. Shore ice at the Southend State Launch was solid and main ice was 14" with a couple inches of snow on top. The above freezing temps did not hurt the ice today due to the snow cover.

Good take PC. I was just north of you in the Standpipe/Golf Club/north end triangle from first light to 3pm. Lots of perch, some gills, and a cluster of crappie throughout the day. The key was to move, move, move to find eager fish. Typical Silver Lake sizes with some plus-sizes mixed in, all released back. Jigs with waxies was my recipe.

They are some nice perch. Perch are definitely getting bigger in Silver. It's good to see.

Any word on shore ice or water color, thinking about trying afterwork today. Thx

I hate this time of year. Alas, another ice fishing season will soon end. The left over spikes that I had I fed to the chickens today. Tomorrow, being that it is fourcasted to be around 67°. I will set up the hub and air it out. I will then pack the hub with mothballs, and hopefully defeat the rodents that want to take a bite out of it. I had a good year catching perch and gills, not so much for the pike. Have a pleasant summer. I hope too see you all on the ice next season. Riddlefiddle out.

Are we going to be on ice at Silver this weekend?! Enough of this mild winter already. Anyone have a report?
-
I live on the south end. Open water all the way down to Macks on the East side. I haven't been towards the North end.

You would probably have better luck in hemlock

Mid lake area that is shown on the camera has a large section of very dark colored ice, no snow on top unlike the surrounding ice which has patchy snow. This was last to freeze it looks treacherous, I wouldn't venture out on that area. If we get snow it will be covered.
Went out of Perry Public Beach today. Ice had patchy snow on it and from 20 FOW - 35 FOW the ice was 8" thick measured with a tape. Bite was slow for perch. Kept a few 8- 9" for a dinner. Warmer temps today did not hurt the ice much it only made the top 1" get soft and the shore ice is covered in snow to protect it.

Nice catch of Silver lake perch. Great day too be out.

There may still be another chance for Silver this year. The lake is completely ice covered.
-
I've been watching the cams. The lake sits at 1375' I would not be shocked if loon is too at 1800'

I drove by Loon on Friday. Ice covered with a lot of open water patches at that point.
